That 200 million was thought to be 4x QNX's yearly income when the sale happened. ..
He did explain that QNX derives its income from "royalties" and most likely that is a one time payment per use, probably not a large sum.

There about 17 million cars sold in the U.S. alone. If you put QNX in 60% of those cars, you could pay off the purchase cost at $1 per one time use in about 10 years. But that doesn't include the other industries QNX is in or the rest of the car sales around the world.

But, it is the embeddedness of QNX that is its value.
