Does anyone know if unlocking your blackberry will give third party apps access to WIFI for those of us without data plans?

Has any other crack been found? It is such a rip off to have wifi access but to require a data plan to use third party apps. The mobile company is not providing the wifi access, it should be none of their business if I want to use a third party app to access the web via my wifi router.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Brent

    no.

and access to wifi by a third party app is based on the app, not the provider or the phone. if an app doesnt work on wifi, blame the developer.

The problem is, when software if being created for a BlackBerry, the assumption is you will be using a BIS/BES data plan.

All BlackBerrys third party apps assume the plan in there.

Only a few models support Wifi, and they are intended to work with UMA access. In that case, all of your third party apps will work with Wifi.

If there is no data plan, only a very few applications will attempt to use a non UMA Wifi conntection.

    Very few!
