The Phablet market is growing fast. In the US, phablet sales currently make up 10% of all smartphones sold, while in the same period of 2013, phablets were only 2% of smartphone sales--so that's rapid growth indeed.

But in just over a month, Apple has already captured 41% of the U.S. phablet market with the iPhone 6 Plus, outpacing all rivals. iPhone 6 Plus Takeover: Apple Grabs 41 Percent Of The Phablet Market In One Month

We haven't heard any sales updates from BlackBerry on how the Passport is selling lately, but even a small fraction of a growing phablet market could be valuable for BlackBerry, if Chen continues with phablets.

What does Crackberry think? Are phablet smartphones a good idea for BlackBerry?

If and when Blackberry releases a new flagship touch screen for the US market it will phablet size 5.2-5.5. Given you can pack a much larger battery in a phablet which enterprise users will love a 4.7 or smaller product doesn't make sense, a rebadged Z3 can fill that market.

I agree that big batteries are a key component for a winning smartphone. The screen size range you mention seems right to me, too. I'm not sure if it'll be an all-touch phablet or a retractable keyboard device, but either way, the market is trending towards larger screens and I want BlackBerry there to collect their money by making cool devices.

    I'd love a BlackBerry phablet.

I'm not sure what the Passport is, but I have two and it's a great size. I loved my Z10 and Z30, so I know BlackBerry can make a great touchscreen phone. It's just that I'm so happy with my Passport!

    Yes.
Anything from 5 to 6 inches.
    S4, iP6+, Note, or even Lumia 1520 / Nexus 6 size...

So-called Z50 or the slider/hider 16:9 enhanced slab would do the trick for me... :-)

I'm sorry but the Passport isn't a Phablet.

It's just a big Qwerty phone.

As a matter of sales, the around 5" all-touch "normal" phones still outsell phablets, but phablets are a very fast-growing segment. Kantar calls everything with a 5.5" screen or larger a phablet, and I'm not sure how it categorizes the Passport. Under the idea of "half phone, half tablet," I think I'd consider the Passport a phablet.
