Will Verizon still require a data plan on it even if its phased out? This isn't for me as I'm waiting patiently for an 8230, but it is for my mother who wants the organization tools of it but does not want the internet.

They are not likley to change an existing policy. There are still plenty of people that will be choosing the Pearl.
