Just enable the wifi, then your BB will use it whenever it's connected to an AP. To make sure, select "Internet Browser" in browser option.

In Manage connections > mobile network options > choose wireless preferred.

That way you will use wifi when available, and mobile network when not.

You'll know wifi is running as the wifi logo top right will be white, not grey.

On mine, I only have the following:-

    Data Services: On
    Mobile Network: Orange
    Network Selection Mode: Automatic

Why don't I have "choose wireless preferred"?

Not sure you're looking at the same menu I am...

Does it say at the top 'turn all connections off'?

Yes it dies, but I have to go in to network options in order to view the options that you were describing.

When I go in to network options, it only displays the options in my previous post.

There is no 'Choose wireless preferred' option in Mobile Network Options.

At least not in my new UK release version.

Odd. I'm a UK Orange user, running OS 4.6.1.286. This option for me is under manage connections - mobile network connections - connection preference. Maybe I have a different OS.

That must be it. I'm running 4.2.0.118, which is a bit weird seeing as I only bought it last week.

    Can I update it easily?

You're asking the wrong guy! I'm on the OS that the BB shipped with and waiting for an official
OS 5 release. I bought mine a month ago so odd (again) I have a newer version. What network are you on?

It seems straightforward enough upgrading - there are loads of threads on it - but the OS 5 beta doing the rounds has a few glitches, from what I've read, particularly around the call screen.

I'm on Vodafone. I'll have a rummage round here to get a newer OS.

The 8520 doesn't seem to exist on Blackberry's website. It isn't mentioned in the device software update section and I struggle to find software compatible with it.

    Ta.

Actually, just checked and I'm actually on v4.6.1.272 (I was looking at the platform).

    Still slightly older though.

Thanks for that, I'll check the site.
