Morning all. I wanted to ask, if you have a device that supports Wifi, do you have wifi on all the time, or only when you need it?

Most places I use my Berry have wi-fi so I'll set it to "automatic" and let it switch between the various networks. When I'm nowhere near my wi-fi areas I'll shut it off...so, yes and no.

ALWAYS. Battery life while I'm working is strong as compared to when I
would only be connected to a 3G signal, which is a full 5 bars by the way.

I never have mine on. If I'm in an area with Wi-Fi I'm on a computer or laptop. There are no sites out there I visit with my BB that requires massive download speed. Heck, Slacker Radio works fine by EDGE!

I had to answer, I have a BB without, BUT if I had it I would only turn it on as needed as it's a battery drainer.

I haven't messed with wifi much yet. The only time I tried to turn it on was at home using my own wireless router and it said I would have to enter some strange password every time I wanted to use wifi and I haven't messed with it since. I'll get around to learning how it works one of these days, it just seems like a PIA to have to mess with passwords whenever I want to use it.

Ok so an update to myh post of a few minutes ago. This thread prompted me to look at the wifi setup again and instead of searching for signals I tried push button setup and it was quick and easy with no passwords needed. While I was sitting in the restroom I tried the browser searching for images both using wifi and edge and wifi was a lot faster so I will be turning wifi on when I plan to use the browser but turning it off otherwise. Thanks for this thread as it has made me get off my **** and learn something else about my phone

I have tested it plenty of times on my Bold and Curve and it does not drain the battery that much by leaving it on. It's like going from 70% at the end of the day w/out wifi on to 60-65% with wifi enabled all the time.

Pck, believe me when I tell you that Wi-Fi actually saves battery life. Doesn't drain it at all.
