VZW hated on the WiFi lol, cause you know...they have the network...lol!!

Rogers 9520 WILL have WiFi though cause despite my mild hatred for Rogers, locking WiFi out is NOT something they do to their devices. Detail say H1 for the 9520, but I'm sure that's debatable..Delays and RIM are synonymous these days.

    haven't missed it.
my download speeds on "the network" are very acceptable.
a 220k image files comes down in 2-3 seconds.
    i can't complain.

I'm sorry but i have to say this. Please search, I am a new member here and i couldn't tell you how many threads were already started on this.

In my opinion wifi is just a simple toy and does not do me any good while on the road or in meetings:-)

I believe EVERY BB should be empowered by equipping it with Wi-Fi. This is an additional feature that is handy in countless situations. One of the best scenarios that I know of is when you have a weak network signal and have a STRONGER Wi-Fi signal, obviously the Wi-Fi would be more reliable. And there are a lot of Wi-Fi locations that I can access.

    You said it coach!

WiFi is very useful to many.....my work has moderate cell coverage, but we have a stellar WiFi network onsite. WiFi calling (UMA) has saved me over $10,000 calling back to the states while traveling all over the world. Say what you want, WiFi should be included on every berry (as should unlocked GPS).

It will never happen - way too dangerous a security risk, especially for VZN, but maybe even for RIM / Storm designers. Would you hop a WiFi link on the SAME phone you use to check your bank account or your stock portfolio or have some info about a big deal going down soon ?

I believe you will hear a lot of theories as to why the storm has no wifi, but we may never know for sure,I for one, wish I had it,but could live with out it,maybe they are saving it for the storm 2,or VZW just doesn't like wifi.

The storm was made to the specs requested by VZW and Vodafone, it doesnt have WiFi because they didnt want it.

And that's probably because they don't want anyone to try to get free data service within WiFi range. AT&T offers their phones with WiFi, but if you don't by the data plan, you still can't utilize the WiFi. Greedy b-stards!

But seriously, if AT&T ever gets the Storm, I bet it will be the 9520 model that does have WiFi....you just won't be able to use it unless you buy the data plan.

Oh, and I won't buy another smartphone without WiFi. Not only is it handy if you are traveling overseas and are roaming, but it is still faster than 3G. Besides, several smartphones have 3G AND WiFi. There's no reason why you have to have one or the other. Sorta like buying a laptop without WiFi...no way! It should be a standard feature for all smartphones, IMO.

How is it a security risk for the storm and not the bold?

Any bank or stock program worth having encrypts their data and uses https to transfer information in any case.

WiFi on a device is no less of a danger than transmitting over the mobile network. Both are just as easy to intercept. WiFi allows you to access the internet without paying for it to the carrier (free WiFi at some locations or to your home ISP, but doesnt go to VZW in this case) that is the main reason that some wireless carriers dont like WiFi.

    .
That isn't true. I have been able to use wifi without a problem when I don't have a data connection on AT&T.
