So Thor has talked about all the other models of blackberry 10 they'll be releasing over the next year... a fancy dancy high end device, a mid range device (presumably that makes Z10 the low end one?) along with the same for Qwerty phones.

Move along, Z10: BlackBerry has another flagship stewing for the holidays

Besides cutting off the Z10 at the knee just as its getting some momentum, this got me thinking - why does Blackberry release so many models? I'm new to BB with the Z10, but reading this forum you have the Bolds, the Curves, the Torches...a million models of each...why? Is a Bold 9970 better or a Torch 9850?

It reminds me of an anecodote related in Steve Jobs biography. When he returned to Apple, he was frustrated by the dozens of models of Mac they were making - and that no one could tell him really what each one was for. Eventually he got up and drew a cross on a whiteboard, and said they needed only 4 models - a consumer desktop, a consumer laptop, a professional desktop and a professional laptop.

As far as I can see Blackberry need three devices - the Z touchscreen, the Q qwerty, and perhaps an updated OS7 device purely for enterprise customers. Update these every year or so, but don't promote more than one model of each.

    What do other people think?

I think they need a budget touch and qwerty, I believe everyone would be just fine with the Z10 as the premium device.

Thorsten was on record saying they will only have 6 phones, 3 each...Touch and Qwerty so that developers can focus on 2 types of phones on 3 different price points.

Do developers need six models? Apple only produce one Model of iPhone really, which gets an update every year.

The devs are not actually going to be dealing with 6 models though, they will be dealing with 2 screen resolutions.
