How come there is no power button on the blackberry? It would be so much easier then having to do a battery pull

The (red) end button is the power button (press & hold).
The little circle w/line under the phone symbol means power.

You can also use the turn power off icon on the homescreen

That, however, won't reset your phone when you have problems.

There is a power button, but when your berry locks up, the code that it uses to power off your berry won't run either, hence the need for more drastic measures. =)

It is sort of a fly-by-wire system.

A power button would be redundant.
There is the end call button and the power button in the icons list.
However the fragmented memory in the device is only free-d up with a battery pull

There is no "power button" because RIM knows that once you turn your baby on, you will be addicted heavily and won't be able to put it down or turn it off.

Haven't turned off mine since I got it. Battery pulls are not counted.

Because there's numerous times when you need to pull the battery to fix something.

If you're looking for something to allow you to reset the phone before trying a batterypull, you can download the "SoftReset" application.

For powering the phone off you can just hold down on the END CALL button and it will shut off, as well as turn it back on . But yea for reseting either soft reset or battery pull are the best thing .
