One thing that beats me is why can't Q devices have a portrait screen? I was hoping blackberry would change that with the Q20, but since they have mentioned that it will run apps for the Q5 and Q10, does it mean it will have a square screen as well? A 3.5 inch screen is good enough as long as it's in a portrait format.

Exactly my point. A rectangular screen on a qwerty device. Was really hoping Q20 would have that because the one gripe about Q10 and Q5 was the screen size and ratio. Makes watching videos and at times reading a pain. Plus having a 16:9 aspect ratio screen would ensure that androip apps run better and do not look weird.

I know i've turned my q10 on its side before hoping the screen would go into portrait mode. Why not, when reading an article I think it could come in handy holding the phone in landscape mode (keyboard to the left) and flick the screen with your index finger...

But I do understand why it's not capable...

what bothers me, it's not the 1:1 aspect ratio of the device itself, but the 1:1 aspect ratio when pluging the device into a TV using micro HDMI, that is something they could change!!!

Not sure about that. Q20 is said to support Q5 and Q10 apps. Means in all probability it will have a square screen. Unless they come up with some kind of hardware scaling.

Exactly ! So in theory it's supposed to be easier make it turn around.. no?
But even with the android app that force the screen orientation I'm still not able to make flip it !!

I don't want the 16:9 ratio like OP, I just want to be able to hold my Q5 without getting a hand cramp while filming or listening to a video

For some reason a lot of people have a hard time understanding why one would want to rotate a square screen. It's just about making it easier and more comfortable while watching something or recording video. I also assumed it would rotate when I ordered the phone, so I also ordered the the night table cradle. But I couldn't get used to the clock being sideways so it was a waste of money...

Seems like something that would be pretty easy for BlackBerry to enable.

Why not? The square screen make no sense for non-bb users. I think this is one of the reasons for BlackBerry fail. Square screen is like old televisions.

How difficult can it be, to merge the Z10 screen size with Q10 physical keyboard?

At least it make much more sense than making a wide device like Passport, which you can't call 'a phone'.
