Yes, it's great, but when developers won't make apps, BlackBerry improvised, adapted, and overcame that problem, to a fair degree.

It's one of their solutions for addressing the lack of apps. One that reportedly Microsoft is also considering for a Windows Phone.

But, this decision (put android runtime) made developer even less willing make an native application for BB10.

I don't think that considering became to reality...It is not good idea.

No it didn't. Lack of a large user base did that.

If your OS can run more than one OS, why not?

Imagine the phone that could run apps from ANY platform's app store and could run them well. You would never want for apps.

All they have to do is lock down the "run them WELL" part and it becomes a major selling feature. Well, and also the easy to install part.

I have to admit that most of the people that I know on other platforms are impressed that my BlackBerry has the power to run BlackBerry as as well as Android.

However I hope to see this become un necessary as BlackBerry pulls itself back up to be a major player over the next few years.

If BlackBerry can get handset sales back up, developers will begin to produce more quality apps for the platform. Making the ability to run Android more if a novelty than a feature.

Short term fix for a long term solution!

I agree that basic reason is lack of user base, but android runtime made it even worse (IMHO of course).

I think initially the Android runtime was used as a tool for developers to make it easy to port their Android apps to BlackBerry.

Agreed! I suggested this in a recent post. How awesome would that be? Oh ya, BBRY is the best device AND it has access to all the apps? A game changer I'd say..

Except for the little problem that iOS and WP operating systems requires a paid license.

The draw of Android, IMHO, isn't necessarily the free license. It's the ecosystem (especially Gapps) that makes it valuable. MSFT has given licenses for free recently, BTW.
