Imagine having a rugged blackberry, being able to text while its raining, not worrying if it fell into the toilet, pool, i would most def buy 1 if it was available, or if there was a company that could make yours rugged would be great too!! if any 1 knows if this is possible let me know i would be interested..

About the only thing you can do is what's called a conformal coating, it's a coating applied to the circuits on the board to protect it from moisture and a lot of other stuff.

The only thing it can't protect is mechanical parts, so water and dirt can still hurt the keyboard and trackball.

Ya I think the only good thing to come out of nextel was the rugged phones built for job sites.

closest thing to that now would be getting an otterbox case for your berry, that would be cool till they came out with a rugged edition...which id buy lol

I would buy one in a heartbeat! Sometimes I get so tired of babying my phone. It would be great not to fear every drop of rain if I answer the phone outdoors.

I think the cost of a rugged blackberry would be more than the cost of a normal blackberry with a water resistant case.

The otterbox defender is great. Its not water proof, but it's rugged and water resistant. The only thing "open" is the trackball. If they could find a way to cover the trackball and still make it operational that would rock.

Just checked out the Shellback and the Otterbox. I think even though it's bulky I will probably go with Otterbox because of price considerations.
