Who believes BlackBerry can be turned around in 2018?
- He is basing that off the FACT that TCL Communications does not sell any of what the "market" would call high end devices, too be honest most of their shrinking mobile business is in mobile devices that aren't smartphones.
And the fact that manufactures give preference to their best customers and the biggest orders... which by far isn't TCL Communications. Almost surprised the Krypton doesn't have a MediaTek chipset in it - like most of their newer phones. If the Krypton has the 625 and not the 626, it because they had to meet some minimum order that the KEYone didn't fulfill.
Far too many believe TCL Communications is a big major player in SMART phones or that they are a big thriving company with billions to throw around... and they aren't either.
As for Manufacturers giving preference to their big orders, yes of course thats likely the case but to somehow claim the only reason they were able to use the 625 or 626 in the krypton is because of some minimal order requirement is again pure conjecture.
And if the case is they favor those who will make some minimum order how do you explain HTC and their rumored 835 phone coming this year? They can barely pay their bills at this point. Do you think they went out and ordered 20 million chips in the situation they are in?09-18-17 01:15 PMLike 0 - He is basing that off the FACT that TCL Communications does not sell any of what the "market" would call high end devices, too be honest most of their shrinking mobile business is in mobile devices that aren't smartphones.

But actually TCL did launch phones last year with at the time the latest Snapdragon chip which was the 820. If you read in these threads, its other who make statement purely based on their opinion which they pass of as facts when really neither you, I or any of them have as idea.

The Idol 4s (DTEK60) did get the 820 chipset but wasn't fully viewed as a flagship because of other specs where they cut corners. Sadly Alcatel has chosen to pull the Idol line from being a good midgrade option, down to an entry level phone. The Idol 5s (US Version) is by most all accounts a downgrade from the Idol 4... but then they priced it to match, special Amazon Prime version is only $199. It's another $80 without the ads, but then in that price range... not sure those customers care.
Idol 4s/DTEK60 remains TCL's best in show, and that was last year.....09-18-17 01:59 PMLike 0 - Based on what? The fact that they are looking to sell off their hardware division? Or that revenues declined by over 60%? Or the operating loses over the last few quarters? Which one is it that makes them in better shape?09-18-17 02:08 PMLike 0

You are right TCL Communications declining revenues and smartphone sales aren't as bad as HTC - neither were they as good to begin with. But when TCL Communications business is down 20% YoY (almost 40% the last quarter they reported before being delisted) and you are losing money quarter after quarter. Not sure it matters which is in "better" shape.
It's like two cars that wreck on lap 199 of a 200 lap race and have to be towed back to the garage.... neither is a winner.09-18-17 02:56 PMLike 0 -

- Good question. Does Apple pay fees for their own chips and Samsung now with their own in some devices? Would be interested to find that out.09-18-17 03:57 PMLike 0
- Apple absolutely pays some licensing fees to Qualcomm, and to ARM as well. And if I'm not mistaken, Apple has also done some cross-licensing agreements as well.09-18-17 09:07 PMLike 0

I agree though , a sturdy design might be a nice change. Why not supply a OEM case as an extra.Neville A Daniels likes this.09-19-17 01:09 AMLike 1 -

- And that's what I needed to hear from this tread, thanks a lot of the encouragement. I will give it all my best & I will be victorious. Your right I'll need more then luck but it's ok I'll find the way for BlackBerry to reach the highest peek 😌 thanks for the positive words09-20-17 06:37 AMLike 0
- The most important thing that BlackBerry need to do right now is to offer BlackBerry services to small businesses and Enterprises in the manner that they can sign up for.
At this moment in time it is virtually impossible to get a Blackberry subscription.
Forget the toytown BBM version being offered in Indonesia to the domestic market, nobody wants that one in business, unless you are an Indonesian retailer selling into the Indonesian market.09-20-17 07:18 AMLike 0 - The most important thing that BlackBerry need to do right now is to offer BlackBerry services to small businesses and Enterprises in the manner that they can sign up for.

... and CHARGE us for it! Thru SAF or...??? Folks interested can justify the cost! My company owns and maintains many, many $$$ of equipment... yet, the tool that's in my hand MOST is a phone! Utterly essential to putting $$$ in the bank! ANY economizing on that tool is false economy, imo.Last edited by idssteve; 09-22-17 at 06:52 PM.

There currently isn't much to choose from that's been adequately optimized for that niche, imo.
