I've been waiting for a long time for the new os,but still up to 5.0.93,which still not support Chinese. There's a rumor that the official os 5.0 is not far away. I hope will be releases asap.

Never. RIM does not release OS's. OS's are released by the carriers after they have done testing on them. And carriers dont generally announce a release date ahead of time.

Yes that is 100% correct. The carriers approve and release the OS.

I think it would be a while before we see 5.0 i could be wrong but from hearing about it, it sounds like there has been problems with it since being so new. I think that carrier releases are stupid. why would a company put a phone on a network just so they can give a green light when to release something? RIM has built the os..Why cant they release the best one they have? stupid in my opinion. as of 5.0 arent they having alot of problems with a lot of apps not working. I know that apps should be built around an OS but theres somethign wrong when barely any apps arent working, even from their own app world. So I think 5.0 could be some time. like I said I also could be wrong. Guess its just a matter of time for us to see something. Always playing the waiting game.

Could anybody tell me WHY OS are released by carriers and not by RIM itself ?
I'm sure that carriers are not hurried to release a new OS as 95% of the people don't care that much for it, except US.
At least, is it developed by RIM or RIM & carriers ?

Because the carriers want to see if it's stable and works well with their blackberries.

My thought would that when the carrier being in control of the os update it has the ability of removing things that they feel is not needed or what they want the customers having.

I could be wrong but that's why att customers can't use bbmaps. This way they can make a profit off of there services instead of getting something for free. Like the saying goes "nothing is free".

which ever carrier releases 5.0 first, I'm going for it! Delete that vendor.xml file and upgrade! Pretty sure AT&T will delay the 5.0 release by about 6-8 months! LoL those bastards never get anything right. Anyone hear about the delay for the new iPhone OS? hahaha everyone else in the world will have MMS on their iPhone except for...you guessed it...AT&T.

Does anyone have any hot iron pokers or waterboarding equipment? We need to line up the execs for AT&T for some torture sessions!
