There is no need to remove any of the installed cards to do the
upgrade. Nothing in the upgrade affects either of them.

Others can weigh in here, but I have done every OS upgrade as
well as reinstalling my original OS also and never once took the
cards out and have never ever had an issue. You got no worries.

CrackMem works very well. Don't blink because it does what it does
at lightning speed. Definitely an app to have in your toolbox.

And Pete keeps making it better as he goes.

Right, but that does not mean it HAS to be done, which is what the OP was asking

my two cents...I'd pull the memory card...when I updated the OS it wouldn't read my card and had to reformat it! No need to pull the SIM though!

I'd have to say your situation was an anomaly. Again I have done every upgrade
starting with 4.2.2.194, through all the 4.3's and all the 4.5's and my cards
have never been affected. And I think that is the experience of most.

If it really worries the OP, copy the contents of the card to your PC (a good
backup strategy also) and then do the upgrade. Then if anything goes wrong
you have lost nothing, simply copy the contents back to the memory card.
