LoL. No need for that my dear!
I just want the correct information for my own knowledge.
I'm taking in everything everyone is saying.
But, I cannot be sure myself with the questions I have.

Bottom line for me is, as long as it's not spamming my Contacts (like JaredCo or others), then I could care less. It's an online world nowadays, and unless you want to be a hermit and live in the woods, then true privacy is non-existent.

Remember that there are only specific laws that are international in scope.

Interpretations vary greatly. What one country allows is not necessarily so in another. What one country see as unlawful is deemed illegal in others.
Yep! There are even wide differences in the punishment allowed for the crime commited.
Hmmm. Wonder what would happen in Singapore????

On a related note, my free WhatsApp service just got extended. What a coincidence (or is it???)

I've uninstalled and reinstalled whatsapp more than a couple times and more than a couple times I had messages pending upon reinstall. That tells me they do somewhat save your contact information, but for how long who knows.

I wasn't so worried about the privacy issue (my contacts are synced with Google. If you want a scary read try their 'terms of service'). I was more interested in the other issues they had that have apparently been rectified - the encryption and using the device identifying information. I recall another post on Whatsapp where these were the 2main issues.

I think the real problem with them scanning your contacts is that you can't opt not to do it. Only by allowing it will the app work at all.

    Apologies for going off topic.

I think it's that the people that are in your address book have no choice - if they are not WhatsApp users, WhatsApp isn't supposed to be collecting their info (in Canada at least, and I guess the Netherlands too)
    Yep. Exactly.
