    BlackBerries might not be the most used smartphones around, but it looks like both founders still use them for texting (written in the article near the middle-bottom of the article).
    It's not big news, but still something that is interesting to see. Now I'm curious to know if those are Legacy or BB10 devices.

    They would make the app usable on a broad range of smartphones, from dated BlackBerrys, which the both still use for texting, to sleek new Android phones and iPhones, so that people rich and poor all over the globe could take advantage of the service.

    Since the article refers to "dated BlackBerrys" which the founders both "still" use for texting, and then refers to "new" Android phones and iPhones, the context here suggests the BlackBerrys they use are legacy devices.

    plausibly legacy BlackBerry devices. Because whatsapp keeps updating on legacy BB devices, and the one in BB10 feels like its just a copy and paste job from the Android version.
