I think LG is making money as well as several of the Chinese manufacturers. I think Motorola started making a profit again as well.

These threads are inevitable after any kind of rumor regarding the end of BB10. There have been a LOT of rumors over the past several months so I'll ponder the question if it actually arises. Not particularly interested in hypotheticals.
For my own sake, I'd hate to see BB10 discontinued in favor of Android, but without some kind of miracle to drive BB10 sales I don't see a lot of alternatives. If BlackBerry can successfully skin M and incorporate the hub, I'd consider it.
bbry android for dat bb experience suite.... idk what everyone's hang up on android is....vanilla android ( if you want to use a stock android os (not flashed) you should get a nexus phone as those receive updates direct from google and solves issues with fragmentation (if i'm not mistaken even nexus 4 will receive android M)) is very good imo. otherwise i would just get a nexus phone with bb10 hub and keyboard installed.
Buy a BlackBerry Android. I'm always up for new stuff so why not? I don't mind Android or any operating system although my least favourite is IOS. I think it could be beneficial for BlackBerry to make a BlackBerry 10 line of phones for enterprise and an Android line of handsets (possibly the same ones) for consumers. Certainly they'd be the best and possibly only qwerty Android manufacturer. BlackBerry 10 adoption might even take off as a result because carriers and stores would be more receptive to an Android BlackBerry as they (perhaps quite rightly) consider Android to be what people want and may be much more eager to stock BlackBerry handsets. Once the foot is in the door so to speak, quite a number of BlackBerry 10 variants could be shifted too. "Why yes, we do stock the new range of BlackBerry phones! The passport is available in the Android based consumer version or the BlackBerry 10 Pro version."
The bottom line is that although I love my Passport and Z30 and will continue to support the company that has supported my business endeavours, the actual OS doesn't bother me as long as I can configure it for fast, accurate messaging and intuitive email retrieval along with a half decent office suite. BlackBerry 10 is the best currently for my needs but if a BlackBerry skinned Android does the same thing, then who cares.
It wouldn't have to be an Android fork either, just a skin like Samsung's software or HTC sense or Sony's Xperia software. They all include a keyboard variant and other useful stuff (or not so useful) so why can't BlackBerry do a consumer phone that's less security focussed than a BlackBerry 10 but runs all your favourite apps and is a killer messaging device? If BlackBerry got into the Android space, I think that they could hammer the opposition with better messaging capability (hub, peek, flow) qwerty keyboards, sliders and stainless steel rimmed touchscreens or even go really high end with TITANIUM! I can see it now, "BlackBerry has more apps than Apple, more memory, more storage space, a higher definition screen, a faster processor and it's made of TITANIUM! BlackBerry pro, for people who love performance. (and hate bendy phones!)
Just my two pence. I think it's the only way to get the consumers back. Or rather, the best way.

I agree. they also need to really make a marketing push on it.
my nokia 9300 or 9500
those are the very best machines ever!

Sailfish and other Open Source androids have problems running google play services right? And don't have a play store right?

IPhone is classy and stylish. It's pretty attractive and also really famous with the features and services they offer.

Na I don't have issues with it at all. Just saying.

Actually I am quite happy with it. Probably not quite as good as the Z30 but darned close. I can easily get through a day.
Windows 10... Hi Crotona

Your question suggests (wrongly) that we'd all be seeking an alternative.
I'm willing to give the device a shot.
If it has a keyboard (like the slider), I'd be willing to try it out.
If I don't like it, I'll probably pull a Kardashian move and stalk BB10 sellers on eBay till I can get over it in the next few years.
After browsing 1/2 the first page, I skipped the rest to post my thoughts.
1) So far, the Android slider is a rumor.
2) If that rumor proves true, there's no evidence that BB is switching completely.
3) Part of the rumor is that BB is giving up on security for Android, but...
4) There is the Blackphone and my own personal experience is that consumer grade hardening of Android isn't all that difficult.
5) Add BB's experience with security, and do we really believe BB couldn't easily outdo the Blackphone for a secure Android device?
And yet....
As soon as the rumors start, there's a whole crew ready to jump ship. Even though nothing is firm about what BB is doing. Brilliant.
I don't want BB10 dropped. Seems stripping the Android RT to streamline it is better. Has to make it MUCH easier to harden, and also will allow BB to produce secure devices with lower specs. Cheaper to sell em mass to govs, etc.
Then the BB Android would be the more mainstream choice. The folks who now make heavy use of Android on BB10 would logically like this variant complete with the hub and hardware KB options.
To me the real sore spot would be -- I doubt BlackBerry would make it possible to move to the new Android based OS on say a Passport. Which is what I would want to do.
All speculation of course...
It's just a what-if discussion. No one said anything was true.
I choose blackberry because of the advanced productivity features compared to the other devices. We won't lose that if BlackBerry chooses to go android. Instead the greatest consumer will be created. BlackBerry productivity coupled with Google play will give consumers the ultimate smartphone. I believe BlackBerry will Continue to build enterprise devices for those you need top level security.

I would likely give windows10 a shot. My biggest difficulty would be is that I don't want to give up pkb, and I also don't want anything to do with Google. Seems to me like I would be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If BB went full Android, I would definitely try it out. For me, the only thing that I would currently change on my BB10 devices, would be a smoother Android app experience. This could be a phone I'd enjoy using.
Edit: If for whatever reason I didn't enjoy it, I'd stick to Windows, since I've enjoyed my Lumia 1320 and 830 a lot.
I'm not sure if evoking a WCW analogy is the best idea...where is WCW now?

Why must we? I'll just keep using myZ30. I don't have to worry while it works (services won't stop working).
And this.
BlackBerry silly ones. Really now!
I honestly don't have a plan B if blackberry stop making BB10 phones I just don't see my self without a blackberry it's just too good.

I wouldn't want that phone then.
I think it is better if blackberry switching to android. Blackberry apps sucks, limited, and barely got any support, and everything in the app world is not free. The free ones are just a trial or full of ads. Now tell me again how can android apps are developed by greedy developers? Oh and also, android have tons of more apps than the bb world.
