I'm continually amazed by the passion, time and money people put into their mobile phones, and I'm wondering how much money people in these forums generally spend on new mobile phones and accessories each year.

Please share the average amount of money you are comfortable spending each year on hardware and accessories.

For me, the number is about $150-175. I typically buy a phone costing about $600 every four years with minimal accessories.

I used to change phones every year until around three years ago. Now, I think I'll be okay every two years. I've learned to curb the gadget lust I think. I typically budget anywhere between $600 to $1000 for a new phone. What broke this streak was the Priv which I got late last year at $350. Best $350 I've ever spent and the lowest I've spent for a smartphone - or for any phone for that matter including the dumb high end Nokia phones at the turn of the century.

Still amazes me that I got the Priv for that price.

For accessories, I typically spend probably $200 maximum each year.

Let's see this year got a 3rd Q10 and Passport a Z10 off Ebay along with the new iPhone 7 for my kid. Counting the numerous bids I've won and straight out purchases from Ebay on the various old Blackberrys I collect I'm guesstimating around 2K.

Looking for a Blue Classic if anyone has it?

I tend to get a new phone every 2 years. Use to always be contract. Last year I did go to straight talk and got a cheap Sammy from them. $100 something and a $10 cover. This year I went back to Verizon but on prepaid and spent $400 on a phone and $10 on a cover again. Bought a bt speaker for $70. That'll be it for 2 years for me.

I've never paid more than $250 for a phone. Normally keep for about 2 years. No accessories except a charger if needed.

All my Blackberries were purchased after being a few months past release, which given BlackBerry's track record of overproducing inventory lead to massive price cuts, especially on gently used or refurbished units.

HTC Evo 4G - $199 on contract Sprint.
    Bold 9900 - $200 used, T-Mobile branded.
Nexus 4 - $199 new from Google. (used for a couple months and couldn't stand it, gave to family member)
    Q10 - $250 used, T-mobile branded.
Classic - $250 refurbished from Amazon.

All have worked perfectly. Now with the KEYone, I have a dilemma. To buy at full price or not to buy. Given inventory issues and the seemingly "made to order" method in use by TCL, I don't know if prices will drop anytime soon. Classic is also starting to crap out on me with intermittent network/SIM issues.

I buy a new phone whenever Blackberry or now Blackberry Mobile/TCL will put out a keyboard phone. Last year I stocked up on Classics. I have 3 black ones, one blue one, and one white one. One of the black ones is essentially toast now though as the proximity sensor doesn't work and it doesn't hold a charge anymore.

I used to buy every new flagship phone released from BlackBerry, HTC,LG (stopped Samsung after the s4 melting on me 3 times) probably upwards of 5k in devices and accessories. but then three years ago I had a kid. and then another. .. so I've spent maybe 500 since last summer. awaiting the woman's stamp of approval on my keyone purchase. I didn't get rid of devices either. until recently now I sell everything but two devices. one as daily driver and one backup

    Hard to say.

I bought my original Z10 on contract in 2013, which I still have. This year, I have spent about $500 on phones and accessories, but they often get resold or traded. I can tell you I have never paid full price for a device, and I never will.
