What is it and what is the alternative. How do you know if your using WAP vs the Other(name?)

It just stands for Wireless Application Protocol and is the format of websites that are created specifically for mobile phone browsers. You can usually tell if you're on a WAP site or not by the fact that most non-WAP sites do not load properly on mobile phones or some features are broken.
