I am beginning to worry about Blackberry. They need to have a proper "flagship" phone - even if is it overpriced compared to the competition by a little.

    Apple: Soon iphone 6
Android: HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy s5, and Sony S2, Google Nexus 5
Windows: soon to launch the Nokia Icon

    Blackberry? Z30? Q20?

I like the Z30 and all, but it is not up to the snuff of these soon to be launched or now in market phone. I know that the Q20 is coming - but with a 1:1 screen - that is not a mainstream contender.

As i have said on the forums, I am actually interested in a new Z10+ since I like the form factor - and I know they could squeeze a bigger screen into the same size. But, there needs to be an ultra premium mainstream phone that can show off everything that BB can do.

    What say you all?

They need to work a bit on the phones. The Z30 is only good when you know what it actually does and what it's capable of.

I feel like BlackBerry needs to work on a better UI and shell design because it doesn't give a good first impression nor does it feel like it shines between the other platforms.

In my opinion BlackBerry needs to retreat from the need to make a mainstream phone that's relevant to everyone, and instead become a niche player focusing on making the best communication tools on the market.

The flagship should be the device which best represents that.

Give us a high end full touch and qwerty device. We want options.

A flagship phone won't make a hoot of a difference if nobody knows about it.

In the Z10 and later the Z30 they already had, at least at one point, the best hardware and OS on the market... but due to completely failed marketing (or rather non existent) virtually no one knows about them.

A new device isn't going to help that.

Personally I think BBRY should focus on just four devices per year: two flagships - one full-touch, one QWERTY, and two cheap devices - full-touch and QWERTY again.

As for the full-touch flagship, I would really love to see a revision of Z30 with bumped up specs: full HD screen, latest processor, bigger battery, better camera and all that stuff modern users like and want. Nothing fancy on the hardware side, actually. The OS will do all the magic!

I think the days of the flagship phone are long gone in the smartphone market. People are not going to buy the latest and greatest if it doesn't change the current user experience. This is what all smartphone makers have been experiencing over the last year. Just look at Apple which has been quietly discounting the 5s ever since Christmas, 9 months before it new phones come out.

Going forward, smartphone makers will have to think carefully about providing value at key price points. If anything, this is the hole BlackBerry needs to address and is doing so with the Z3 and the Q20. Don't get me wrong, BlackBerry still needs flagship devices but don't expect them to be the big money drivers they were in the past.

BlackBerry will likely have new high end phones in fall before the Christmas season. I suspect the touch screen will be built by Fox Comm. But short term, it is the value and qwerty market they need to focus on.

I guess the z30 should be the flagship phone and just upgraded from here. I have one

My problem is that it is a little too wide and tall for me. Not easy for one handed use. And I jumped the gun and have a non LTE version. It is not a deal killer, buy certainly can not be compared to the other new ones in the market - I am on ATT.

BlackBerry needs to take the screen borders down to make it more narrow and easier to get a good grip on. And agree with the previous poster, just throw the new Snapdragon 801 in there, upgrade to the new 1080p screens that everyone else has. But, I also need them to change back to a removable battery - I hate this trend that Apple created.

I hope they get this in gear soon. I am surprised that it is this hard for BlackBerry.

I think BlackBerry has an idea what they should be doing at this point and are working on it. Their focus is going to be on their enterprise customers so a qwerty device will most likely be their next flagship. I believe (hope) that device will have specks and revised os changes enough to stay relevant and be ahead in some ways over the competition.

BB10 is maturing nicely and features are added(old and new) with every upgrade so with bumped specks, features and cutting edge design they could put out a really nice device.

They will also be upgrading the Z30 since it has been getting praised on web reviews and winning competitions. I mean it will make sense to throw a full HD super amoled on something similarly sized with necessary internal upgrades and stuff.

Anyways I think Mr. Chen can turn this company around, he has a good rep.

They will have to announce Q30 officially with competitive specs,1:1 or 4:3 but a big display with touch sensitive keyboard. It should have the 9900 kind of bezel with a finishing which should be attractive than htc one.
