if you go into ringtones/alerts , under messages it says "pin" then under instant messeges it says blackberry messenger. what the heck is pin? if i set alerts for blackberry messenger its fine. but what is pin?

A PIN is like a BB to BB SMS, it's free and it does not require BBM. BBM is a BB only IM client that has a buddy list, special charactors and other IM features. a PIN is more like an SMS.

I use PIN messages quite a bit when I meet a new contact from here on CB. If all goes well we add each other to our BBM list....
I wouldn't say a lot. I do have two friends who have elected not to install
BlackBerry Messenger so that is how all their messages come through to me.
It is an incredibly tedious way to converse.
