Passport is putting most BlackBerry uninformed critics to shame. Sales figure is really impressive. Sammy isn't smiling, their R&D are keenly watching the recent development. Don't be surprised to see the release of a squared phone named Samsung Galaxy Passport 1 in 2015.
If Samsung wanted to be risky they'd have debuted the Edge as the Note4 instead of a separate phone. BB will release a gold Passport before Samsung releases a PK flagship class phone.
Now LG might revive their square phone that was on Verizon and give it another try.
They've already copied many features of Nokia meego harmattan, which bb10 was based on. It wouldn't be far fetched to see samsung steal some features from the passport.
If they did it would only mean BlackBerry did the right thing. And it wouldn't be that bad for us since some Android apps would be fixed for the screen size
If android does a new portrait slider kind of phone before BlackBerry does, I'll be disappointed. I think it'd been a while since the Dell venue pro which is the last portrait slider I can think of.
If Samsung copies Passport it would be the greatest news ever - it would mean the device has been succesful and BlackBerry had become once again a true competitor for Samsung.
My opinion is no other company is going to copy the 1:1 screen and square form factor. Everything these days from TV's, computer monitors and almost every phone now produced is 16:9 form factor. Movies and videos are all being made in 16:9 HD. That's what people want and that's what companies are going to keep producing if they want to sell devices. I know all the Passport lovers here on CrackBerry are going to be mad after reading this, but remember. You are a small number in the bigger picture. Samsung probably doesn't even know or care what a Passport is. (My opinion).
