One point that I feel is belaboured when it comes to "flagship devices" is the idea of "premium materials" and/or "build quality". Ideas vary on what exactly gives a device that "premium" feel, but it seems to revolve largely around what the current iPhone is. The consensus argument is usually that "Plastic is bad. Aluminium is good." I know this is subjective, and I'm not taking into account entry-level or budget smartphones - for these, design aesthetics and "build quality" are less defining.

What is better? An anodized aluminum chassis? A textured plastic back? A polycarbonate unibody? A circumferential metal band? A rubberized back surface?

These design elements all have objective pros and cons. Is there truth in the argument of one being superior to another?
