What Blackberry Must Do...NOW!
- Stop all advertising! It is of NO VALUE at this time. The Apple and Samsung controlled media has control of your company with
all the negative press from the stock valuation. Many people will simply not buy the phone if they think you will go bankrupt or
get bought out. If you stop the advertising spend for two quarters you will post a profit which will turn the financial media in your favour
That is advertising in itself. When you have that momentum going for you then kick in the ads. This is Marketing 101.
When you do kick in the ads you need to aggressively attack Samsung and Apple. One ad should show sophomore kids playing
silly games at one table with their iphones and another table with grad students all with Blackberries getting things done.
They all look over puzzled and look back at each other and shrug "KIDS"!
The samsung attack ad should show someone holding a phone the size of a playbook to their ear
(moving it around not knowing where to talk into it) saying " hello? Hello?" and then doing some gimmicky futuristic nonsensical
gadgetry which has no value while the same kids from the Apple ad watch in utter amazement and state "KIDS"
And here is another free of charge. An ad showing three people standing side by side and someone says " Ok I want all of you to
send an email to your best friend, send a tweet and post on facebook that you just bought a new smartphone. The guy in the middle
has a Q10...he types...tw, fb, email bob, just bought a new Q10 send. And show the other two plugging away for 20 seconds
'dead silence' and then the Q10 guy walks away while they are still typing. Blackberry Q10 get bleep done! Large windows above
each of their heads showing what they are doing. People need to see the Q10 experience.
By the way if the Q10 does not have that feature then you need to add it and that is free of charge too.
Lets face it, who in there right mind wouldn't know that getting plastered all over the news that you are doomed
(because of the stock price)(controlled by samsung and apple behind the scenes) would have a negative impact on selling your product?
BB marketing should be fired immediately and if TH is cluing into any of this then he should go too. They have one more shot before
apple releases new product.
Stop all ads now and post a really good profit sept 28th.
When apple releases new iphoine in BB Q3 many people will consider switching because of the Fischer Price look...then BB can kick
in the attack ads showing people using iphones as "KIDS"...This is so simple. I am shocked at how incompetent
the current management is.
BB10 can compete yes...it can't compete because of the negative press...no one wants to buy into a loser...this is all cyclical...
everyone wanted an iphone because they wanted to be cool until of coarse everyone has one and then it's not cool anymore...
BB has a shot on apples down cycle right now but they have to turn the negative press around and the only way is to turn a profit...
stop advertising stop all spending NOW! each quarter will produce better and better results resulting in more and more converts...
bigger profits higher phone sales then you kick apple and samsung in the teeth with attack ads
most Americans think BB is dead...apple and samsung have done a great job in selling that...there is no doubt in my mind they
have been behind the short selling and fake longs playing off each other knowing that the results would fail and they continue
to get the media to tarnish BB...this is buying them time...This could all work out and BB probably will survive but if they act now
they will come out a lot further ahead picking up converts when apple had nothing and G4 is nothing all that new...you cannot sit
around waiting for companies with billions of dollars to blow on R&D hoping they don't produce something game changing...
Windows would be dead if BB acted now...they have a one quarter window to turn the media around now before iphone releases.
They had a 2 quarter window but they blew the first one spending money on advertising that was useless...
The bad press is killing them and posting a profit is the only thing that can change that...once again, that is not to say they won't
get through this but they have missed the Q1 opportunity to gain huge market share in Q2 had they posted a profit...06-29-13 01:20 PMLike 0 - OP I completely disagree. For one, BB needs the "kids" market and the old "BB is for adults" tag is done and doesn't work anymore.
Secondly many people can type faster on a touchscreen phone (myself included) than they can with a non-touchscreen, including the Q10.
Your type of thinking is what got Blackberry in trouble the first time. The other phones on the market (iPhone and Android) AREN'T TOYS, and it's your way of thinking that put blackberry in this situation that they are in now.
And iPhone with a fisher price look? What world are you living in? The iPhone is what most phones are judged by and from a build quality standpoint and what most touchscreen phones (including the Z10) are are designed around.
Sorry to disagree but I think your ideas are as outdated as the current ads being ran by Blackberry now. What are the ads doing? The people that waited know they have reinvented themselves and will upgrade. The ones that are using apple and Samsung don't care because they will not buy into a platform that looks like it might not survive, the apps might not come, the company might go bankrupt or be dismantled. Not to say I think that is what is going to happen but that's what the media is saying and it in now spreading globally because of the US media. Apple and Samsung are no doubt behind all the negative bashing and short selling but they are also behind the fake longs which over estimated sales knowing it would not meet expectations and buy them another quarter. This is not a children's game when you have Trillion dollar plus market at stake. This is so easy to beat them at there own game but you have to show a profit to do it. If they stop spending now the Q10 sales will allow them to post a huge profit on Sept 28 by cutting 250 million in marketing spend. The good press after that will swing things in BB's favour. Repeat same for one more quarter and then kick in the attack ads and ads actually showing how good the Q10 is as a communication device. I am shocked that current management cannot see this.

- Waiting for upgrade to come due, many of the BB sub base is corporate clients that have just installed BES 10.1 (18000 business's) they takes months to approve large phone orders. Government phone orders take months as well. You are missing the point. They will sell many many Q10 phones over the next two quarters so they do not need to advertise at this time. The ads were supposed to be to convert people but those people are fixated on the bad press. There are 100's of millions of people who think Blackberry is dead and the no profit quarters are continuing to fuel that belief. Stop all spending. Post a huge profit. Turn the stock around. Get good press. Repeat for another quarter. Post even larger profit. Better press. Blackberry is back. Then advertise when there is no negative press around anymore. Then you will get the converts in droves. Along the way you will have added 10's of thousands of new apps because the app developers now believe in the long term viability of the company. More apps, good press, good profits, good sales, apple getting stale, Samsung getting too gadgety, you will get converts in droves.
Think of it this way...If they did this in the last quarter they would have posted a 50 cent profit. They do not need to tell anyone what the breakdown of the phone sales were (old OS vs new). They simply would have said 6.8 million phones and a 50 cent profit. What would have happened to the stock and the press coverage then? I'm guessing a complete reversal. The analyst's would have had to guess how many BB10 phones sold. Most would have guessed a much larger number than 2.7 million because the profit was so large. The stock would not have tanked the short seller may have gotten squeezed and the stock would have went up. Result, great profits, good press, better sales of Q10 this quarter with no Marketing spend and they could have produced potentially one dollar in earnings in Q2. Then they could increase marketing spend when the bad press is gone...
