Is it better with BlackBerry Link or is there a way to put the numbers on the os7 device onto the sim card and then insert it into the q5

i think u can transfer from sim to q5 directly... but id link all ur contacts onto gmail or hotmail and that way u simply add your email account and ur contacts are automatically synced.

also means you will literally never loose ur contacts!

It's been a while since I've done it but there was a tutorial on how to do it. Basically you have a few options.

Create a Web email account like Gmail, yahoo on your old phone. Then setup the sane account on your BlackBerry 10 phone and it will automatically sync up your accounts including contacts.

You can also create a backup of your os7 phone using desktop manager. Then use lync for your bb10 and it will carry over some things. Contacts, notes (outs them into the remember app) and a few other things will come over to bb10.

As previously mentioned I would sync it with an email account that you have set up on the blackberry. This way you'd also never have to work about backing up.

If that isn't in the cards, I would use device manager to backup.

There are two ways that worked well for me:

    1) BlackBerry Protect - Back up your BBOS device with Protect and then activate it on your new device . You'll get the ability to do a one shot download of all your Protect data including Contacts (and wifi profiles, etc)

    2) Use a cloud based service - not Gmail - something like Outlook.com or Office365 - and your contacts are always in Sync.

The best way to transfer contacts between smartphones IMO is to have them stored in your web-based e-mail account (i.e. Hotmail/Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).
