    Hey everyone

I'm a new poster from Australia. I just acquired a hand-me-down Curve 9300 from my wife (she got an iPone). I'm loving it.

I'm looking to buy a new phone in a couple of months and I want a BlackBerry. I'm not a business man, nor am I someone who wants to 'play' with their phone (not much anyway). I'm not good with texting on a number pad or touch screen, so I want a phone with a keyboard.

I've been researching BBs online for a couple of weeks and found this site.

I've been drawn to the Torch 9810 because I love the idea of a big screen and a keyboard together. Is that a phone users would recommend? Or am I better off going for the new Bold with the smaller screen?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If you like the big screen/keyboard combo than abslutely go with the 9810. Its a great phone as well is the Bold. If you have a store nearby that carries BB's go play around with the different models and see which you like best.

Check out the keyboard on the 9900. There's nothing that comes near it. The 9810 keyboard is a bit fiddly but, yes you do have the advantage of the large touch screen.

I agree with the previous post, go play at a store if you can.

    Thanks for the reply,

I have had a play with them a couple of days ago, but I was mainly wanting to make sure I wouldn't be disadvantaged in any way if I went with the Torch.

It has OS 7 doesn't it?

The Bold 9900 is definitely the easiest Blackberry to type with. I came from a Torch 9800 and find it harder and slower to use with that keyboard.

As far as the screen goes, I soon became accustomed with the Bolds smaller screen.

As someone said go try em out.

i went with the 9860, the full screen one. i had the 9550, for 2 years before i got the 9860, never broke or anything. i feel the more mechanical parts any kind of electronics have, the more easy it might break (9810 has sliding + keyboard), and to mem the 9860 is really easy to type on

I would recommend 9810 if it was not for that stuuuuuuuuuupid lock button which locks my phone all the time and there is no way to turn it off. The lock button is just waaaay to sensitive. So go with 9900.

The 9810 does. the 9800 does not.
If you're going to get a torch, pick the 9810 over the 9800, fur sur.

The 9850/9860 has a beautiful screen. The onscreen keyboard is easy to get use to and very useful for reading texts and BBMs. Having the larger 3.7 inch screen helps when using maps as well.

    Welcome to Crackberry!
If you want a Blackberry device with a keyboard i would suggest you to choose on of those: Blackberry Bold 9900, Blackberry Bold 9790 or Blackberry Torch 9810.

If you like the slider go with the 9810, if you want a device that is really advanced & professional with a keyboard and a touch screen then the 9900 will be the best to suit you, if you want something more simple with smaller screen go with the Bold 9790.

I recommend you to get the Blackberry Bold 9900.

In my household we have the bold 9900 and I own the 9810 torch. I recommend the 9810 torch because it is the best of both worlds.

you get the great BlackBerry keyboard (smaller than the 9900, but you get used to it)

and a bigger screen, which is great for everything from reading text, playing games and watching videos.

the way you described your potential use of a phone sounds alot like my profile, the
torch would be best for you I think

BUT make sure you get the 9810 torch (which is an OS7 phone) and not the 9800 torch (which is an OS6 phone)

my friend has an 9800 and wishes he had all the little improvements the 9810 has.

    hope this helps

VERY little improvements from 9800 to 9810.....not enough to burn up an upgrade. RIM wants us all on the OS7 bandwagon, let them fund it through the providers without making us use an upgrade.....for $49 I'll upgrade, otherwise, I'll wait, the new phones won't see the light of day this year, I'd bet the farm on it. And would you buy the first release, knowing it will be buggy as , and will be replaced about three months later?

I had a Torch 9800 and now a Bold 9900. Both are wonderful. The Torch gives you a bigger screen but a bit smaller keyboard. I got used to the keyboard after a few days/maybe week so you should hopefully have no problems with it. When I switched to the 9900, wow! The keyboard is heaven. And even though it has a smaller touch screen, I don't really miss the space. The rest of the phone compensates for this detail in my opinion.

Since you stated that you have a few months left, I would suggest going back to the store a few times and play with each one. You can get more of a feel for each over time and see how the screen and keyboard differences fit you. For me, I'm sticking with my 9900.

Yes the 9810 is better simple google search for torch 9810 vs 9800 and you will see, I'm not saying he shouldnt upgrade, I'm saying since he wants to get a phone he may as well get the better one.

Thanks to everyone who's replied. I appreciate the feedback from people who actually use these phones.

Is there any phone that's better to use to bridge to the Playbook? I'm thinking about getting one of those too.

Welcomento the forum. Brother this is a loaded question I'm afraid. Lol. Either 9810 or 9900 is fine phones. I have a 9700 and 9800. Both are dang good devices. I played with a 9900 and I would rate it alittle over the 9800/9810 in the purpose of using the keyboard. The slider Torchs tend to get alittle top heavy when doing little extra typing. It didn't make that big of a deal to me though. If you will be using a keyboard mostly I think the 9900's keyboard wil out weigh the screen size difference.
If you think there might be a chance you'll use the virtual keyboard more then I think the screen size of te 9810 makes better sense. This option being selected on screen size. Let me suggest the 9860. Its a touch only screen that's huge for blackberrys. I upgraded from a 9800 to this 9860 and really like it. I moved up for the.big screen. Something I always wanted. I watch movies every once and a while on it. I was worried about the touch only but I'm making it work. Auto txt can really help ya out.
Stick aroun and let us know what you decide and what you think about it. Its always cool to hear opinions from new users. For me anyway. Let's know if there's something I can help you with.

I have the 9800. It's a very useful handy phone

I find the keyboard is easier to use if you don't put a skin/protection on it. I put my 9800 in the BB leather sleeve/pouch.

But definitely get the 9810 over the 9800...

Compared to the 9900 the 9810 takes better close-up pictures

It seems like its definetly between the Torch 9810 and the Bold 9900 for me. I really value the physical keyboard. So was there any difference between these 2 regarding the 'bridge' to the PB?

They have the same functionality with the bridge.

With remote in blackberry bridge coming soon I think having a larger touch screen may be better. Hence 9810 again.

Haha honestly its up to you between the 9810 and the 9900 but I love that you have the full touch feeling for apps. And specially for web browsing.
