Curve 9300

It depends on your carrier. The 9780 and 9300 are good devices. I like the 9650, there will be some new devices maybe this summer too.
Yes, its her first BB . . .

I have the 9780 (not my first BB) but I think for α "first-time" experience, the 9300 is good!

If your going for new your choices are what is available but if you consider used you will probable have a lot of good options. Curves are nice work well and can get them in different colors. In our small city I see them on kijiji all the time for bargains and its as local as going to the store

9700, 9780 (double memory, OS 6 only). Curve 3G if you're money crushed.

9700 or 9780 are the best bet.
9700 if you are concerned about the cash. 9780 if you want to gift her the best of the best.
Curve's screen, camera and battery are inferior to the Bold series
I usually recommend getting the best you can afford, and in terms of BB the current best would be the most recent Bold or maybe Torch if you happened to be on ATT.
Then again, consider how this individual takes care of things. Do her things tend to last a long time or is she pretty careless with her things?
I would say the 9780 because once she gets hooked on BB she will be wanting more out of her phone. :D
Curve should be everyone's first BB!
I would go with the curve for a first BB
Curve's fine for most people, unless she needs a decent camera. Are you on a CDMA network? The 9330's 512mb of ram is a nice boost.
The "BEST" BB on the market disregarding value for dollar is definitely the Bold 9780. As you said yourself... not a fan of the torch.
What about the 5530? I love that device and it looks pretty solid. You could buy one sim free and wouldn't be commited to any monthly fees if you went with a sim only plan. Just a thought but the 9300 is definitely a nice device as well :)

the curve is good even if its not your first bb
Yeah exactly, no offense but I never get the idea of the "first-time" experience or starting low.. I don't think there would be a phone that's "too much to handle" for a first-timer, it's just a phone afterall and its not like BB's are super advanced. in fact very user friendly
I have a Bold 9700 and it's my first BB and I loveee it. I thought about getting the Curve 8900 at first but I figured once I get the "hang" of it I would want more out of my phone and knowing the Curve vs Bold specs I know I would want to upgrade to a Bold eventually (actually pretty quickly)
