I had never even heard of the game until all of this started hitting the web about it getting taken down. I'm not a big gamer anyway so it doesn't make much difference to me.

It does sound more like a developer gone crazy than anything else. It's not as if any of the people who downloaded the game had direct access to him anyway so I don't see how his life would get so much less peaceful.

The Register posted about this today, and included a link to an open source version of the game called "Clumsy Bird". And I guess someone is still making "Tappy Bird" for BB10. I never had any desire to play the game myself, but I think all the "flap" (couldn't resist!) about it being taken down is interesting.

Ehhh... the game is actually pretty horrible. It's insanely simplistic and difficult. And I hear the creator used bots to popularize the game.

I still wouldn't take it down. $50k a day is $50k a day...

He will still be making that 50k. No new ppl can get it, but the people that already have it will still have ads run for them.

Sure that number might drop to 25k or 10k in a few weeks, but 10k a day for a month is more than some people take home in a decade

Don't buy nba2k14... took me 2 weeks to connect online, so I started an offline mode and got glitched on the finals for 3 weeks until 2k released a 4 gb 'update'

Lol. Horribly rushed fame that isn't worth the money.

The thing that made Flappy Birds such a viral "hit" was the competition between friends to one up each other. It was not about the 16-Bit Graphics or the Strategic Value of the game... it was simple yet very hard.

So when you post a picture on Instagram of your high score on Flappy Herbie....
