New crackhead here, already with a dumb question:

My phone doesn't have the usual VM assigned to the 1 key.
I can assign *86 or just the phone's number to the 1 key and that does dial the voicemail, but doesn't dial the voicemail that the phone recognizes as "voicemail" so the auto entry of the password does not occur.

Anyone know how to assign "voicemail" to a speed dial key so that the phone recognizes it as dialing "voicemail" so it puts in the password?

If I press <menu> <dial voicemail> the password works fine because the phone doesn't display "dialing *86" it displays "dialing voicemail".

    Thanks for any help.

    Just a guess here...

Try going to the phone app, go to options, then go to voicemail and put the number in there.

Right, I've already done that and that's how it knows what number to dial for VM and what password to put in when I dial voicemail by pressing <menu> <dial voicemail>.

I just can't figure out how to assign "voicemail" to the 1 key and not just *86.

I thought for sure assigning *86 would do it, but the phone apparently doesn't associate that with "voicemail" so doesn't put in the password.

    Press the Green Call button.
Press the Menu Key > Options
Highlight "Voice Mail" and press ok/enter
Enter your cell number as the "Access Number"
    Enter your Voice Mail Password
Press the Menu Key > Save

To call your Voice Mail, press and hold "1" on your blackberry keypad.
It will automatically call your voice mail and enter the password for you.

I was really having issues with getting the keyboard up in time to punch in my password after using speed dial to enter voice mail (while driving - VBG!)- kind of defeated the usefulness of speed dial! Your recommendation makes it a breeze!
Thanks - this forum is GREAT!

I've already set up the vm number and password in that options screen, which is why it works when I dial vm by pressing <menu> <call voicemail>.

My problem is that I cannot access voicemail by pressing the 1 key. Nothing is assigned to that key.
If I assign *86 to the 1 key, it dials my voicemail but does not put in the password in, as it does if I access vm the "long" way.

    Thanks for trying to help.

I had this problem before like the phone erased the 1 key

Here's what I did. Assign a speed dial to the W - the 1 key. Doesn't matter what speed dial. Then delete it.

Then do a battery pull and voicemail should be back at the num 1 and hold it down. This will be the easy way and it will enter your password.
