Nope, the GPS on the Storm is unlocked. I use Google Maps version 3.0.2 and I get a great fix on my location. I recently took a trip from the Oregon Coast down to New Mexico and back, and Google Maps worked like a charm.
VZNav is just that... VZNav. just make sure you turn location on first (Options > Advanced Options > GPS > Click e911 and select Location ON > Save) and any other GPS based location apps will function just fine
Thanks Guys! I'm going to cancel VZNav then. I tried it but I dont like it. You cant talk while Navigating, its difficult to use...I like my Garmin MUCH better.
does Verizon charge to have the GPS turned on?
in order to use the VZ Navigator you need to pay for it. To use the GPS on the storm you dont need to pay extra because you are already paying for it in your BB Data plan.
Oh ok thank you. I only want to use it in the BB Maps.

you will be fine than.
I'm not trying to be offensive or start an argument or anything, but you should REALL look into Google Maps and Latitude. I saw people posting about it, and I was skeptical about installing it, being as worried about free app memory as I am.
Once I had it on my BB, I immediately called Verizon up and cancelled VZNavigator. This app gives you excellent local searches and connects you to any business you can think of. If it worked with BB Messenger like the BB Maps do (you can send your location just like you can send a picture, video, or sound) I would just get rid of BB Maps. Maybe it DOES do it and I just haven't tested it out yet... I'm going to try it now.
...I feel like I should be getting some kind of comission from Google.
I have Verizon and don't have VZ nav . My GPS has never really worked since I've had the phone, the closest its ever gotten is 1200M. That's with both BB Maps and google maps on all 3 OS's I've run, .75, .109 and currently .132. I've checked all my settings and alls good. Could I just be in a bad GPS location? I'm like 5 miles from Boston.

Google map is but can't hold a torch to vznav or garmin. I find my vznav more update then garmin mobile or my garmin460.
