So you confuse Privacy and Security....
    Read BlackBerry's terms of use.
It's the topic of the thread.
They are harvesting your data just as much.

And the moment you use Android apps (and apps in general), your expectation of privacy just disappeared. It flew out of the window.

If you want to talk about these subjects, I would highly suggest you inform yourself better, because it's clear as day that your opinions, don't hold up to facts. Not even for 1 second....

Your love for BlackBerry seems to blind you to a rather worrisome degree, and apparently to the point where you have to invent things like: BlackBerry has your privacy in mind.
Saying that, shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what and who BlackBerry is.

BlackBerry provides services for Enterprises, to monitor their workforce. The whole point of BES was never privacy, it was security.
BES has options to log everything, from the browser history, to BBM conversation. If anything, BlackBerries were designed to monitor employees. Which is the the 180 degree polar opposite of privacy.

But hey, don't let facts destroy your romanticised view of BlackBerry.

    1) there isn't a business app that isn't avail in Blackberry world or not already on my device. Blackberry world could be called an ecosystem although rather small...but they are NOT android apps. I have the option to install Android Apps but nothing more...it's an option.
    2) Apps on apple and droid do require unnecessary permissions...if YOU have used either you would know this. You have to root and jailbreak those devices for any kind of privacy.
    3) you can joke at my expense all you want, doesn't change anything on my end.
    4) I used to use google in the beginning when they had a "no evil " policy...do you remember that? Then they did a complete 180 and went into collecting and sharing mode.

    1) quote the post you are replying to.
It's standard forum tiquette, since conversations are hard to follow.

    2) If you don't know that BlackBerry shares consumer conversations with Law enforcement, if you don't know that scrambling is far worse than encryption and if you don't know that the consumer BBM is one of the most insecure messengers on the market...

Why would I do the work for you, provide you links and try to help you to leave the stage of complete ignorance you are in?
You want to stop being ignorant? Well, Bing, Yahoo and what not will help you.
I surely won't do the work to actually search for those links, when I have to converse with an irrational fanboy.

And now comes the point where I will clarify something to you...

You are correct when you say that Google doesn't profit from privacy and that they need to be intrusive.

The one good point 4), where I agree with you, totally gets destroyed by your lack of knowledge and your fanboyism towards BlackBerry.

But 2) Apple permissions are editable. Granular. Just like native BB10 apps.
No difference here. (lack of knowledge once again. Look, you can like BlackBerry all you want. But don't invent things. Like consumer BBM being secure or that BlackBerry has your privacy in mind. Those are strictly lies, from your part)

    1) Saying that there are all the business apps, in BBW, shows your huge disconnect with reality once again.
iOS and Android both dominate the Enterprise. With a huge part being because if ecosystem and apps.
Medical apps? Basically iOS only for example.
And then there are a lot of other business apps, you'll never find in BBW but in the Play Store.

You want one of the most easiest examples?
    Microsoft Office and Google Hangouts.
And that's not even specialised software. When it comes down to specialised software, BBW is a wasteland. Not even talking about custom apps. Most custom business apps are iOS or Android, not BlackBerry.

It's 2015. The 1st quarter nearly passed as well.
Your mentality is live out of Waterloo, circa 2006.
Arguing about the app or ecosystem situation and saying that BlackBerry has no problem??? Even Chen admitted it. Even the CEO said that he might not be able to compete, withtout a better ecosystem and wrote a letter to Congress, basically begging for apps?

    Weclome to 2015.

You don't understand the difference between a BlackBerry on BES and a BlackBerry not connected to BES, do you?
Consumer BBM, the one not on BES, is easily spied on by law enforcement and BlackBerry even actively helps law enforcement to spy on their citizens.
And yes, this is all documented on paper.
A BlackBerry without BES isn't that much better than an Android or Apple.

BlackBerry does not have your privacy in mind. Read the terms of service.
And as was said before, the point of a BlackBerry was to monitor employees.
Monitoring employees is the exact opposite of providing privacy. Do I really have to explain that?

And to answer the boring question, of the why am I here....
Probably because my private phone is a BlackBerry, while my business phone is an HTC.
But there seems to be a pretty big difference between us:
I can have a BlackBerry, and keep the sense for reality. I can have a BlackBerry, yet appreciate the truth. And I can like BlackBerry, yet I can be critical of it.

Android Central? I don't even like Android. Actually, I'd probably never buy an Android from my own money willingly again (I'd land at iMore). But what I like even less than Android, are misinformed fanboys who spout misinformation.

    1) non BES BBM doesn't use encryption.
The article is factually false at that level already.

    2) BlackBerry shares the data of non-BES users with governments around the world.
Especially the UAE and India are perfect examples for this behaviour.

So your article is factually wrong on both accounts.
    Like, completely wrong.

Hangouts has become one of the standard communication apps in enterprises.
    Same as G-mail.
Google has its own very popular enterprise suite, and if you believe that important businesses use or don't use them isn't the point.
The point is, that in our current reality, the Google enterprise suite is incredibly successful and is widely used.

Docs to Go is not Microsoft office and that's also the reason why I took it as an easy example.
The "toys" have the most used business suite (Ms Office) available in their app stores, BlackBerry has not.
We use the Cloud office, thus we use the Ms Office app. Simply because of Office, we could have stopped using BlackBerries.
But since there are around 4-15 apps (dependent on the department) mandatory apps (office being one of them) that we use in the Enterprise, every smartphone platform who can't handle those, will be dismissed.

So yeah "no company...... Will use Gmail and Hangouts" is simply wrong.
Those are very successful business products, even if you can't see that.

I can see some of your points, I'm just a privacy nut and it's nice not having Google on a device for a change and NEVER having to use Odin again....
That's great. I can also understand your dislike for Google, as I don't like them myself a lot either.

That's very altruistic of you, but you can bet that people would search for alternatives if they'd actually be that unhappy with their phones.
Just like they ditched BBOS the moment they could, they'd ditch Android and iOS, if something better would come around the corner.
What we can surely say though, is that BB10 obviously isn't great enough to even endanger WP8...

BlackBerry does not have your privacy in mind. Read the terms of service.
Although I agree that BBM isn't encrypted end-to-end, I have to disagree with the word "actively".
Yep, like EVERY internet service provider in the world, BlackBerry must assist LEA when a warrant has been issued and that's what they indicate in their terms.
Without a warrant the BBM messages won't stay on their servers, that's also stated in their terms.

So, for people who are working for example for Suisse banks or other, err, legal innocent business entities which are sometimes in conflict with authorities due to terrible cultural misunderstandings, consumer BBM is perhaps not the best choice.

On the other hand, if your personal risk assessment indicates that a warrant is highly unlikely, then consumer BBM is secure (enough).
You might find this interesting: https://blog.blackphone.ch/2014/08/04/bbm-unprotected/

Obviously BlackBerry did a very good job when they implemented the TLS for cross-platform BBM (on top of the scrambling).
So for me, as long as my privacy is sufficiently protected by law, then BBM is secure (d by law).
The Snowden leaks aren't indicating that BBM is misused for mass surveillance by the way, probably because one can't issue easily warrants for all 80 Million BBM users (?).

Sony used some old BBOS devices on BIS, not BES and not BB10 IIRC.
Since their "inner fortress" was attacked, relying on their own servers for critical communications wasn't an option anymore.
Which would mean that a BB10 BES device wouldn't have helped them.

Apple's iMessage wasn't hacked either. That was iCloud.
Was it even hacked, or was it some form of social engineering, btw?
