RIM Patents Illustrate Reinvention of BlackBerry & Beyond - Patent Bolt
Don't get me wrong, but are they seriously "reinventing" the Nokia Communicator?

Hehe... The difference being that it's only one screen and that the bottom one can be anything you want... Keyboard when you need it, scrapbook, gamepad, chat window while the top one is the presentation screen (webcast), etc.
It's your Filofax, more than your phone. Think fold-able galaxy note in terms of features.
This is weird. All UI must be rewritten, which is a bit insane,except....QNX10:cool:
I came across some new information and I think the line-up for this year was supposed to be:
- Z10
- Q10
- Q5
- Z5
- Z30
- P'9882
The AQ series was a runner up for the Z30 label, but it didn't perform as expected.
The Z5 (Caf) has either been cancelled or pushed back due to large amount of Z10s still in the warehouses.
For 2014, things look interesting as BlackBerry seems to be ready to introduce 2 new form factors. I could be wrong and one of them could be a new type of qwerty though...
- Cheap qwerty (Kopi)
- High end touch (Ontario?)
- *NEW* Slider or different qwerty
- *NEW* Square Booklet (Windermere)
I had 3 Communicators, so I am actually a fan of the form factor.
I also understood what this theoretical device would make different but it's hard for me to not only see it as a reinvention of what Nokia already did, paired with a Nintendo DS.
But thanks for going more into detail and I kind of think that this digital filofax has some potential.

I was right about the Z5 then...
There was a number of times where I said that the Z5 is a strategical necessity and that it would be very strange to not have such a phone.
So the Z10 is the new Z5.
The list for 2014 seems very interesting.
I wonder if they will finally market these devices correctly.
And wouldn't the Windmere need some serious landscape support?

Well, its 2 x 1440x720, so it could be that apps are only "allowed" to run in half the screen.
If you hold it vertically, you get your Hub with all your messages on the left and on the right, you're looking at some app.
Sounds creative, I have to give you that :D

What do u mean by booklet? Like some type of laptop dock?
The concept at the top of the page
New type of qwerty?Do you mean the one with the second screen ?
Maybe the twist keyboard, maybe a sensitive keyboard. I have no idea at this stage.
From the rumoured devices Channel
Looks like the Ontario device will have world editions
Looks like good progress is being made on Ontario, which I think will be a qwerty(too early to tell). We now have the following models.
Rxxx - OntarioNA NA
Rxxx - OntarioVZW Verizon
Rxxx - OntarioSprint Sprint
Rxxx - OntarioWFDLTE World phone FD-LTE
Rxxx - OntarioWTDLTE World phone TD-LTE
Seems like a new model has made it's way into the OS
Rxxx - KhanB
Rxxx - KhanE
There is something different about that model, so could be a tablet or a different form factor
god i hope its a tablet!!!
Interesting

I have a feeling that they are prepping some type of laptop dock for the phones(maybe windemere) and also a tablet for the enterprise sector. Have you guys seen anything in the recently leaked oses that would hint at these two devices.
Looks like you've filled the gaps :)
There are a few more IDs which are not yet matched to any hardware
10.2.1 is focused on Kopi, so nothing interesting about future devices, which are on a different platform...
I dont understand why the cameras are only 5mp on the Kopi series?
That's very cheap and BlackBerry is aiming at releasing low cost devices.
"Different platform?" As in not running BlackBerry 10?
Posted via CB10
Different hardware platforms, but there will also probably be a new device launching with QNX10.
What differences would QNX10 have to BlackBerry 10?
BlackBerry Bold 9900; Q10; Z10 [BBM#6]
