Funny you should mention this, I was just looking at a file and saw that their software controller supports the following codecs:

• Opus
• Celt
• G711A
• G711U

Then I checked further and saw the Opus and Celt enc/decoder

Intermittently, yes. Not as often as 1440x1440, so it appears to be on the back burner.

By the way, I think the Passport models are broken down like this:

SQW100-1 - ROW
SQW100-2 - VZW
SQW100-3 - NA

Mostly because the SQW100-1 is apparently being certified in Indonesia. Still, it's good that there's not two NA GSM models.

I wonder by not having to create a device for T-mobile for carrier testing, did that speed up the developement time for the Classic and Passport.

Both AT&T and Verizon use Band 4 (AWS) for LTE in addition to T-Mobile.

For T-Mobile, it is their only LTE frequency deployed.

For Verizon it is their "XLTE" which will eventually be rolled out to the majority of their coverage area.

For AT&T it is one of the 4 frequencies they roll out for LTE depending on their spectrum holdings in a specific market.

So based on this info, both the Verizon and AT&T variants should also support T-Mobile LTE. In fact, T-Mobile currently uses the same spectrum as AT&T for their network so any AT&T device will have full T-Mobile compatibility except for AWS HSPA.

I know there are issues with the Verizon Z30 not working for everyone on T-Mobile. I did not know that AT&T was now using the same LTE band as T-Mobile. I guess this is recent?

Sorry just realized my post is a little confusing.

T-Mobile refarmed their network to use the same frequencies at AT&T for all but LTE. AT&T uses Band 17 for their primary LTE frequency while T-Mobile uses Band 4. But AT&T actually uses 4 different frequencies depending on market for their LTE deployment. So part of fully supporting AT&T would mean that the phone would support all frequencies currently in use by T-Mobile with the exception of AWS HSPA.

The Band 4 is not in most markets for AT&T. But it is one of the frequencies they are deploying so new devices should support it.

It's doubtful if it sped up the development time, but it definitely reduced the development cost. Building a new variant device is an expensive and resource consuming process. This development is usually done in parallel for all variants so BlackBerry doesn't need as much development capacity going forward.

Probably, although I don't know what was stopping them from just adding the AWS band to the standard North American model, allowing any GSM carrier in the USA and Canada to use it. AWS is the only difference between the SQN100-1/SQN100-5 and STL100-3 RFF91LW/RFK121LW. The Z30 situation is different but still avoidable.
