    Hello,

I would like to get my wife and I unlocked blackberry phones for when we travel. We travel a fair bit, las vegas, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos and Cuba.

I am looking for a phone we can use on these networks, obviously by purchasing a sim card in each country we go to.

What phone would you recommend, this phone will be only used for travel and not in Canada where we live. We would want to use it for phone calls, texting and emails (Data Plan).

Please let me know if you could recommend a good phone.

    Thank you,

You're best bet is to find a 9700 or 9300. Once unlocked it will cover all your needs when you go away.

iPhone 4S. That is what I have. If you have wifi you can Skype or FaceTime for free.

It's not the phone that is important in this case but which radio Bands it uses. For Vegas you will want one of two types of phone. One is the standard ATT type with a 850-1900-2100 UMTS radio on 3G HSDPA. The other choice is a T-Mo version phone. It will have an AWS 1700-2100 UMTS radio on 3G HSDPA. You will need to research the individual networks in the other places you travel. You can make your decision based off of the Bands they support.

Canadian versions are Roger, Telus, Bell = ATT
    Wind, Mobilicity= T-Mo

I would like to thank everyone for the information.

At the moment both my wife and I have the Iphone 4, not unlocked and still under contract with Bell Mobility. If I was to have them unlocked can I use different sim cards from the different countries without voiding warrently and all that stuff?

I have planned on having a couple phones for travel but using our Iphones with the countries would work too.

    Thanks again,

The Bold 9700 can really be a good option for you, it's pretty cheap and can be unlocked like any other Blackberry GSM device.. then used as your traveling phone with prepaid sim card.
