I recently bought an unlocked T-Mobile 8320 Curve for its WiFi capabilities.

My service provider is ATT and I am not in any data plans. When I connect to a WiFi hotspot I am still unable to connect to the internet.

There's an error message reading : "Unable to connect to the internet, please try again. If the problem persists please contact your service provider".

The error message will only go away when I enable the data services, but I don't want to be charged.

My question is, Will I be charged for using the internet (connected through WiFi) with the data services enabled?

Is it possible to connect to the internet through WiFi with my data services disabled?

I tried removing the battery and putting it back in but that doesn't work.

If you set data service to be "OFF" under 'Mobile Network' option, you cannot access internet over wifi.

Be careful with AT&T, some at&t users here reported that at&t would add data plan if you insert your SIM to a smartphone.

Alright, so if I enable Data Services, change Connection Preference to WiFi Preferred, and change my homepage browser to Hotspot Browser then connect to the internet via WiFi despite not having a data plan I shouldn't be charged right?

You should read your provider's TOS.
