    Hi,
Thanks to the clever people on the forum I have 'upgraded' my wife's sim-free 8520 to use UMA on Orange and it works nicely.

However, sometimes when she comes back home the phone will connect to wifi as usual and UMA does not come up at all (not even lowercase 'uma'). Looking in diagnostics the DNS seems to fail, although a manual DNS lookup works. Note wifi and internet access are working.

    Code:
    UMA
    Connection Pref.: Wi-Fi Preferred
    UMA Wi-Fi Available: Successful
    Connection: Error
    Error Code:
Status: ISP or wireless network error.
    Reg. UNC Address:
    Registration: Error
    Authentication: Error
    Serving UNC Address: unc.singlephone.orange.co.uk:14001
    Security Gateway Address: singlephone.orange.co.uk
    Cell Info.:
Cell. handover to UMA failures: 0
    Cell. rove-in failures: 0
If I turn off the mobile radio and reboot (eg; wifi only) then it goes straight into UMA. I can then turn the mobile radio back on and it continues to work on UMA (we have no mobile signal at home)

    Code:
    UMA
    Connection Pref.: Wi-Fi Preferred
    UMA Wi-Fi Available: Successful
    Connection: Successful
    Error Code:
    Status: UMA Connection successful.
    Reg. UNC Address: unc.singlephone.orange.co.uk:14001
    Registration: Successful
    Authentication: Successful
    Serving UNC Address: avn0950unc1.singlephone.orange.co.uk:14003
    Security Gateway Address: singlephone.orange.co.uk
    Cell Info.: MCC:xxx MNC:xxx Cell ID:xxx ARFCN:xxx
Cell. handover to UMA failures: 0
    Cell. rove-in failures: 0
Before I start the next level of troubleshooting (going to put a packet capture on the internet connection) has anyone see this before? Why does it come up sometimes and not others? Any hints or tips?

    Thanks
    Paul

Just thought I would add an update.

This is working just fine and reliably now. Haven't changed anything. I can only assume there were server/service issues in the early evening and that cause the problem.

At the moment, its all working beautifully!

    Hi,
I have a similar problem. I have O2 broadband at home. My BB curve 8900 connects to the router and shows UMA without any issues, but even after that the voice call quality is really bad. I cant hear the other person on the phone , when on UMA.

But for some reason , when I am on UMA in office (office has BT business broadband account), the call quality is much better

the WIFI test done in office has come with this report

I have already forwarded port 500 and port 4500 , but that didnt help, I have tried changing security from WEP to WPA2 and even that didnt make a difference.
Please suggest some solution because Orange have done some replacements of this handset, but even then the same issue persists. I have zero orange network at home, so I am totally relying on UMA.

I am having a similar problem with intermittent UMA service, once it gets it is usually stays but it sometimes takes a long time to connect to the UMA. Currently my wifi diagnostic is saying that I have a UMA connection available, but that the connection is "error" but gives no actual error code...

    Can anyone enlighten me?
