I'm not a marketing man, nor am I a phone making specialist, but I reckon there needs to be some sort of rationalising of the name/number system that BB10 has introduced, along with the better cameras in the new ranges coming out.

I don't know whether I am alone, but I find the BB10 phone 'names' confusing as I can't work out the corresponding Z & Q numbering that tells me which models are meant to correspond and which, within the Z & Q categories which are the higher quality phones. The only clear one is Z10 and Q10 - I understand Z = touch, Q = Qwerty and 10 (presumably) something to do with BB10? What about Z3 and Z30, are the corresponding Qs the Q5 and Q20? The numbers seem a little random.

With the old legacy units it was clearer - Bold was best, Curve was below it, Storm/Torch were the touchscreen range. And the higher the number, the newer the device. However, this doesn't follow through with the new BB10 units, which is confusing.

Also, and this is subjective to a degree, the newer phones must have better cameras. I know the BB10 phones have improved cameras over the older BB7 units, but they are still some way behind other phones' cameras. I use my phone for work and need a good camera for work photos, but the quality of the Z30 photos I took, sadly could not be compared to competing phones on other platforms.

I realise Mr Chen has a lot of work to do, but I do hope he can address these points. If new customers can follow the phone ranges/categories it'll help remove one hurdle. And phones are the cameras we all carry these days, so they must do the pictures justice.

While I agree that the Z30 should have a better camera, the Z10 came out before the iPhone 5 and it has a better camera than it.

Check out the TechRadar comparison...I find that the Z10 camera is very good, it is great for the price of the phone.

Regarding the device names: Basically; the higher the number, the higher the tier of the phone.

The numbers are a little impersonal I think.

Camera, yes I'd rather see a better camera (and software for it) than a faster processor. Need a camera that takes good indoor, real life picture.

For me, these are the top things that I hope CEO John Chen will sort out

    1. Marketing. During last year's BB10 launch it was abysmal. For the upcoming launches of the Z3 -Jakarta, the Q20 - Classic, and Q30, I hope that they really put in a good marketing effort.

    2. Better relationship with the carriers - especially in the US and Canada. Like it or not, Blackberry needs to have the carriers on its side as a partner instead of an adversary as what occurred with T-Mobile .

    3. Better training of the salespeople in stores that sell BlackBerry products. There were too many instances where they did not know about BB10 or how to display it.

I tried the Z10 when it came out and while it was far better than my 9360, it wasn't really good for the types of photos I have to take. A lot of mine are indoor, low-light photos and the Z10 didn't provide suitably comparable quality to other phones available then, in my eyes. I tried the Z30 recently, and found it was also sub-par to my eyes, to phones that I consider to be comparable.

Maybe I'm missing the point with the numbering, but it makes sense to use a straight forward, simple numbering sequence, not only within the Z and Q ranges, but also across the board. I understand the numbering is higher = better, but they are random, it seems: Z3, Z10, Z30 & Q5, Q10 & Q20. It would make more sense if they followed a sequence along the lines of Z5, Z10, Z15 with Q5, Q10, Q15. It would be easy to see where each phone sits in relation to the others as well as between the Z & Q ranges. But as it is, who is to know when in a shop, whether a Z3 has equivalent specs to a Q5, or will the Q20 equate in hardware to a Z30 (aside from the obvious keyboard). This is what I'm trying to fathom - BBRY seem to pick numbers at random, which could work against them when their range is set out in a shop...

I would like BlackBerry to team up with a known Camera maker. They could then advertise, "Camera by Fuji or Panasonic" etc. Who would not prefer a Canon or Nikon or Leica camera in their phone. Great for marketing and maybe even joint venture opportunities.

Maybe they could team up with Kodak...

But yes a partnership that allowed them to get a really great photo experience on a BlackBerry as well as a promotional tie-in would be great. But that would cost them more money, as will most any good idea at this point.

    Ive mentioned this idea before.

A nikon camera sensor and lens would make headlines.

John is listening. J_caloy got invited as a guest to speak about BlackBerry at their dubai tour.

I think thats a brilliant move.

Well well looks like common sense is somehow prevailing in BlackBerry currently.. I wonder who recommended him but at the very least they are making good decisions
