    What's reality? Yours?

Why are a lot of people complaining here about going Android? Whimsical people? Or are they the people you are talking about?

The unsuccessful sellings of the Priv says it all, only few crackberrians were willing to change to Android.

Let's stop that and accept that not everyone wants crapdroid.

BB10 is done whether you want to believe it or not. Do you know how many people, over the last few years, have moved on to Android? More than you wish to know.

And just a word of advice, using words like crapdroid makes you sound like you're in grade school.

What are they not seeing that you can?
As if Chen and the Board saw the Priv not selling when many here pointed out the obvious 6 months ago. Mid-range androids by BlackBerry will sell even in smaller numbers than the Priv did.

Did the Passport, Leap or Classic sell well?

Looks like more Passports were sold on the launch day of the Passport online than Priv's were sold so far through all carriers.
At least yesterday's BerryFlow said so.

Even in this last quarter, when everybody knew BB10 was EOL, more BB10 phones were sold than Priv's. The ASP at 315 dollars was the same as in the previous quarter.

It's also terribly demotivating for the people working at a company. It makes it sound like everyone else who works there is a minion to the CEO.

The "I" thing went out of style decades ago. I'm surprised Chen still does it. It sounds ugly. In a period where BB needs all the great talent they can get, someone (head of HR maybe) should tell him to quit it.
Even the Queen of England refers to herself as "we" when speaking in the first person. However, she is referring to herself and God so I am not sure she is being humble.

Ok but are processore the same? A comparison MUST be done after months of use and with same processor, same memory. Your Z10 can't be taken as a competitor to Priv...

    1) I don't have the PRIV, it wasn't available from Verizon at the time. Got a Droid Turbo 2, which in many ways is probable equal or better than the PRIV. Work got it free on contract, vs the PRIV which came out a month later on VZW, is currently $199 on contract.

    2) I doubt a better processor or more memory would have fixed the glitches in BB10, as most Z30 and Passport owners seem to have the same Contacts and Wi-Fi issues. Maybe another year of maturing would have really helped BB10....

So I think you have to accept that a $400 BB phone will of course have lesser specs than a $400 Samsung phone. The hope, though, is that enterprises will say that's fine because in return they get better end to end security with the $400 BB phone. That's the play that BB is making here.

You're asking Chen to walk on water if he's going to beat Apple and Samsung on specs at the same price point producing only 3M phones a year.
I don't have to accept a lesser phone for more money and neither does anyone else. If BB can't compete they should stop selling phones.

Only way that works is if the software offers something more....

Doubt it will offer something that consumers will pay more for, but possible they might have something that enterprise would pay more for. Only thing is I think enterprise would need more of a commitment from Chen to continue offering that solution. Think BlackBerry has pulled the rug out from under them one too many times....

By September I expect BB10 devices will be history.... the question is will BlackBerry have a replacement that they will stand behind.

Right. Not everyone have really used both.

Anyway it seems that a lot of people here discovered Android. There is an incredible news: it has been around for quite some time now.

Where were you all this time?

I've had Android for years. The issues you are describing are consistent with:

    1. Bloatware-laden Samsung phones, not an accurate representation of the capabilities of Android
    2. Old devices
    3. Old versions of Android

Perhaps a stupid question and one that's been asked many times but..... Is it possible that BB10 OS is removed from a BlackBerry (Z10, Passport, Classic etc) and install Android instead?

I guess I'm wondering if BlackBerry can salvage old hardware by just adding Droid to it?

If this was possible...I'd guess they'd be doing it...thoughts?

It's not technically impossible, but it's not going to happen either.

The problem with all ideas like this is that to do it would cost *someone* (in this case BB) money. And companies will only spend money if there is a payoff for them. It's business after all.

Where's the payoff for BB in bringing Android to old BB10 phones?

BB only stands to make money if they can sell you a new phone, not offer Android as a free upgrade to already bought BB10 phones.

Actually it IS technically impossible, as these devices will never be certified to distribute Google Play even if you get Android on. OHA specifically restricts display ratio to be at least 4:3. 1:1 won't get approved.

I could argue that certification issue only makes it legally impossible rather than technically impossible.

... but I won't, as I think we are in agreement that it isn't going to happen even though we arrived from different directions.

The issue for BlackBerry is the costs of maintaining the BB10 OS and the costs of making the specialised chips. Chen says the break even point is much lower with Android.

My problem with the PRIV was the price plus I do not want a slider. I would however consider either an all touch or a dedicated PKB phone.

Why buy one of these two new models? I like the BlackBerry apps for Android and I do not believe in workarounds. Enterprise will not be using the Cobalt solution either. Enterprise wants all touch devices just like consumers.

The other draw will be a medium screened PKB but with better ergonomics than the PRIV. It should be cheaper as well.

Having three devices to sell makes it easier for BlackBerry to break even in hardware.

If you want a PKB, there is only BlackBerry and soon you will only be able to buy a used BB10 model. If I really wanted a PKB then I would prefer to buy one that was part of a ecosystem.

Will they sell? Yes, I think that both models will outsell the PRIV and the Passport. I do however think it would be a mistake to stray from the Classic design for the PKB.

It sounded like the classic is getting hard to manufacturer, so I'm guessing the workhorse 400 processor inventory is getting low

BB10 is effectively dead already. Want you want is a new Android version of the Q10. That would be a very nice small device.

Well it is a spec provided by the OHA, so running out of spec is still a "technical" limitation, albeit an artificial one...

Classic uses a MSM 8960 which dates back to 2012 in the Galaxy S3, not a Snapdragon 400 series. And it's actually the LPDDR2 that's the bigger problem.

Kinda doubt it was a failure, I actually knew some people with one. Besides if it was that big of a failure there wouldn't be the iPhone SE.

The only thing that made sense would have been that BB had compiled Android for the rest of products in their stock. Easy, fast and clever. They would have had a full portfolio in 15 days. And BB10 users wouldn't have felt abandoned.
