I just picked up a Blackberry Z30 and I was going to have it unlocked. When I go to settings-about-hardware, I can find the IMEI number, but when I type *#06# I get an IMEI number that has 1 extra digit on the end. The same thing with my Z10, except with the Z10, there are two extra numbers when I type *#06#.

Which is the IMEI number that I should submit for unlocking? Could this be the reason some people have troubles unlocking their phones?

The IMEI should be 15 numbers, if you use the #*06# that should be the right one.

Well interestingly enough, the *#06# produces a 16 digit IMEI on the Z30 and a 17 digit IMEI on the Z10. I guess the one accessed under settings is the correct one.

The first 15 should match whats on the box or on the label under the battery.

OK, mystery solved - sort of. IMEI numbers are between 15 and 18 digits long. The IMEI number is always displayed correctly when using *#06# from the keypad. Why the IMEI number is shortened in the Settings-About section of the phone remains a mystery to me.

I just dealt with this issue, settings shows my imei as 15 digits, *#06# shows 17 digits. Sent for unlock using 15 digits imei and got an unlock code that wouldn't work but sent away with the 17 digit imei and finally got a working code.

This might just be a bug but it should be fixed asap or else many ppl will have issues unlocking their phones!
