I just got my 8900 and I was wondering if there is any GPS app that will give turn by turn directions either walking or driving I did a search but could find the answer.
Garmin Mobile is $10/month or $100 for the lifetime of your device. It features voice navigation and will work with a bluetooth gps puck if your internal GPS is disabled. Garmin does not list the 8900 as a supported device, but T-mobile is a supported carrier. Garmin has a 7-day free trial, so you can see if it's compatible.
I have been using Garmin Mobile on my BlackBerry 8900. No problem in installing it on BB 8900. I used it in Illinois, California and Florida. It is an amazing program showing the map, turns and voice directions. As indicated above, Garmin Mobile costs about $100 for lifetime use. People talk about coupans of $20, but I have not seen them.
I used the AmAze GPS, and so far, it works great, has talking turn by turn GPS, and even works better than the standalone GPS on my bold.
When I get my 8900 tomorrow, I will try the other free GPS applications, as well as the free trial of TeleNav,and report back with a comparison.
I believe the advantage to using Google is public transportation and walking directions as well, but I do not know if this has been implemented in the BB version yet.
First off this is my first post so I want to say hello.
And yes I am a "newb" or whatever but I promise not to annoy or act ridiculous as those are not my intentions.
Anyway, with that being said, not to sound ridiculous but I can't seem to find Amaze GPS on the app. store for nothing.
-- Though just a quick question... if I am not able to find these mentioned programs in the App store, is there a designated website for most of them anyway so I can probably download there? I know odd question just curious.
Thank you once again!
A combo of amAze and Google map works great for me. I wish amAze has a fuction to update current location so that you do not have to cut and paste address or type it in yourself. But both are free gotta be happy about that!
Don't u find AmaZe a bit laggy? I'm running on 8900

I can't comment as I only have used it for long distance not for city driving.
For city driving, I normally get Google map and get myself familiar with directions and off I go. I do not like something keeps telling me every minute to make my turn

Does it lag when driving long? I get a lot of hour glass action

It has been responsive for me. Giving me enough time to prepare for changing route. Again, I always study my route before I take off anyway. So my experience might be bias.
Installed amAze and try to run it but get an error msg "Communication Problem". Anyone has any idea what is wrong?
i had the communication problem when amaze was trying to download the sound files for the turn by turn directions. i just tried again five minutes later outside my house and the communication problem wasn't there anymore... worked fine.
