I used virtual brokers. $2 in and out. But they take forever to setup so you wouldn't have a chance to buy any RIM pre-launch. I've had good experiences with Questrade too ($4.95/trade). I only use Scotia iTrade for very, very (multi-year) long term holdings due to their ridiculously expensive brokerage fees. They do give real time quotes and level II information.

Scotia Bany. $24.99 per trade up to 1000 shares. If you have more than $50,000.00, then it is $9.99 per trade.

I set up an account and deposited money into it. It was put on hold for a week first. Other than that, it has been great.
