I read on line a few minutes ago that President Trump had handed over is Android phone for a more secure cell phone but it did not mention what the new phone was. Any ideas??

My Best Guesses would have to be the following device.

    1. Any Blackberry Android Device (PRIV , DTEK50, DTEK60)
    2. Blackphone 2
    3. Turing Phone
    4. Solarin

Obama used both a BB and an Apple at the same time. The Apple was strictly for personal use and was fitted with voice and text encryption, NO government use was allowed. BB was all business.
I read an article about Obama's blackberry several years ago. Its internals were rebuilt by the NSA. I think they do the same with an iPhone now.

What's the point of BlackBerry get the highest level of government security if no one uses bb10 phones

Trump uses an old Galaxy to tweet anyway so he'll be right at home.
About that DISA app store: Pentagon App Store Is Open, but the Shelves Are Pretty Bare - Nextgov.com

The Defense Information Systems Agency’s new Mobile Applications Store is open for business, but don’t expect to shop there for military-grade killer software.

The store offers Slate, Pandora, TED and Twitter apps, along with apps for USAToday, Flipboard, Facebook and Kindle.

Yeah, the NSA physically built in voice encryption rather than use 3rd party software.

It will be something special not available to public. Made by general dynamics usually. He will also probably get a severely locked down iphone.
Yep the military industrial complex has to be involved in picking the pockets of taxpayers.

Actually with his popularly at the moment perhaps him using a iPhone is a good thing. Trump using a BlackBerry would be another nail in BlackBerry's coffin.

He is quite popular. That's how he won the election.

He should be using a Blackberry Passport now that it finally passed NIAP certification or at the very least, a Blackberry Android device. Don't know why they would bother to extensively modify a Samsung device to secure it when much of the work has already be done on a Blackberry device.

I believe they have a custom modem / radio chip as well, that's what I remember was the big thing with the NSA.

Maybe he has a Turing phone now. That's super secure and locked down.

Several Android devices received NIAP certification well before BlackBerry, including Samsung with Knox. BB10 is again too late to the market. I don't know of any US Fed Agency using BB10. Some still have some BBOS but they are slowly being retired.

BTW iOS also has NIAP certification.

The phone was extensively different from any commercial phone (see Blaze's post). Also, the President's device works on a very private network.
