I wasn't sure which category this question best fit.

There is upcoming travel to Mexico. This will involve driving across the border and across many states of Mexico so good coverage would be appreciated. Length of stay will be 3 weeks.

I contacted Verizon, my carrier and was informed of the following for adding International dialing:
    Calls are .99/minute

    Text messages are .50/message sent
    .05/message received

Global Data package is $25.00 per 100 MB

I started wondering since my BB is already a Global phone, could I have it programmed with a number, say from TelCel, and prepay for service here in the US prior to travel? Or should I just buy a phone in Mexico with pre pay service?

    Any advice, greatly appreciated.

You can unlock the phone (there is a Crackberry unlocking site, among many) and when you do that you can put in a sim card from another carrier to save on the roaming fees.

I'm Canadian and in Finland right now using my Z10 after unlocking it and putting in a pre-paid sim from a Finnish carrier. I also gave my friend my old 9900 here in Finland and he is using it here as well.
