I prefer the trackball. I've just never found a touchscreen I'm comfortable with. I'm also looking forward to testing out an optical trackpad and seeing what all the buzz is about.
Prefer the touchscreen + optical trackpad + dpad combo that my phone has. Trackball works nice, but the whole "moving parts" reliability thing is an issue since they made it a lot harder to disassemble.
I'm willing to put up with a lot to have the large screen area, but after fooling with the iPhone and the Pre I thought I was going to be stuck with a Winmo phone. Without stylus capability I absolutely suck at touchscreens. The Storm with Surepress, once the screen was adjusted so it clicks properly, made all the difference. I can now visually see what I'm on before I click on it. It may be slower for some, but for me it's faster since there's no where near as much correction necessary.
I hate my Storm ...I would take a trackball and full keyboard over it in a heartbeat. I'm trying to trade out this phone for something else for that very reason...
I've never once used a touchscreen I've liked.
Even train-ticket machines and public phones.
Our fingers are just not small and accurate enough, and as screen resolutions on portable devices increase this problem will only get worse.
I can't think of a case in which I'd rather perform a task on a computer using my fingers rather than a mouse, with the exception of signing my name, and on a smart-device the closest input device to a mouse is the trackball/trackpad.
It seems a waste of time to be looking round the screen for the next button rather than just knowing you have it all under your thumb.
I prefer the trackpad! But if those 2 were my only options i would go with the touchscreen just for the main reason that it wont wear out. But i actually do hate touch screen phones, but i'd pick if over the trackball even though i use one right now!
