I think the BlackBerry brand might be what's ailing it. People are often impressed with the phones until they hear the word BlackBerry. To say it has an image problem is an understatement (US especially).

It's surprising sometimes how much difference a rebranding can make. The company may have been rebranded but the phones have not. Perhaps it's time to consider it?

I just get the impression that it's the word more than the product that's the problem.

I know what you're saying but BlackBerry just got rebranded from RIM. They could release a line of new devices with a different brand name, perhaps a cheap touch screen?

Not much of a rebranding considering they just called themselves what everyone called them anyway. The whole RIM/BlackBerry thing shows that they can always create a new brand for the phones themselves.

They changed their name from RIM to BlackBerry because the brand was stronger than the company name. But perhaps it's strong in the wrong way.

What Blackberry/RIM really needs is a time machine so that they can go back in time and work on BB10 to ensure it launches by no later than Q4 2011 and preferably Q4 2010.

When I heard they were changing from RIM to BlackBerry I said it was a bad move. BlackBerry is the brand with a bad name, not RIM. Most people didn't know what RIM was other than a job.

Yeah perhaps they should have kept it as it was and made a new brand for the phones.
