IRC
Now THAT is taking it back, way back.
I'm reminiscing of the "old internet" days. :nerd:
If you set one up...
I'll build you a bb10 app for it. But it won't do notifications :)

I remember those IRC days or actually nights. And nobody seems to know about it nowadays.

Someone wanna enlighten me about this IRC?

I think it's a great idea. I still use IRC (Internet Relay Chat) from time time if I need help with different things.
These were very popular a decade ago and I used them on a daily basis back in the DirecTV days to get codes. News groups were also very popular befor all this P2P stuff.
Excellent idea and would be even better if we had an app.

Not just an idea its up and running
Check the op.
nostalgia ;) but really does it have any relevance? Other than the you're allowed in as a member being the "ish" crowd its not really relevant ... is it?
Forums,
Twitter,
Blogs,
IRC pretty much got done a while back. Still great for low data interactivity ...
Ah bulletin boards, low bandwidth use, those commands (KICK!) lol, IRC reminds me of the pre internet days ... bulletin boards ;)
how is THAT for being old?
Yup. I still remember trying to play lord on a 300 baud, the excitement of a 2400 ... going to a a 14.4, and using what was it... TELIX and.programming scripts to play mutants for me.
Not to mention, back in the day you used to get jailed on the bbs for trolling :)

Ahhh, thanks for reminding me about getting kicked out of some channels. Sometimes it was fun, and sometimes annoying.

I still reckon you can't beat the sound of a v32 bis modem connecting (p'tang p'tang)!
Ah those were the days.
Usenet's still about. Gave up using irc yonks ago.

Warez baby! It was all about the warez!
What is the Irc app of choice on bb10? On webos we had wIRC which was perfect as Irc apps can get. Hopefully there is a good native option or at least a nice android port.

No native app yet.
Oh man ANSI graphics, single line chat, doors. Wildcat! WWIV, Fido bbs, PCboard...
Some people say the internet killed the bbs; which is not entirely true. Bbses where part of the early Internet. There where networks like fidonet and wwivnet that contained thousands of nodes; and eventually they got interconnected. It was possible to post on a Fido bbs in California and receive a reply from a WWIV bbs in Montreal (eventually) .
The birth of the world wide Web "killed" the bbs. It's not truly dead as forums and other social media are the direct descendants of the old classic bbs.

I released a free Telnet App for going into old BBS's, it's not an android port. But it was pretty rudimentary.
Telnet:

But here is a free IRC client I see
It's Android but looks decent. I could rewrite it for bb10.

Tweeeted the first app!! Thank you!!
I'm on irc all the time at home and i use "yaaic" as my irc app and it works quite well for an android port.
