I've checked through a few of the "Buying a new BB" Threads along with "Best BB ever" Threads and the majority of folks rave about the 9700...a few go for the 8900. Before I make a decision between those two (Or any other recommended for that matter) Here is what I use my Blackberry for and my situation.
Calls and Music and some Wifi.
That's about it. I live in a third world country without any major carriers so I'm not on any plan or contract or package. I don't think we've started to use 3G as yet so that's a bust. I just want a phone with decent memory that doesn't freeze after I add songs/Pictures to it or on a whim like my current 8320 does.
So with that said, recommend a decent phone with me that I can get, locked, that isn't tied down by a mobile contract or whatever you sign in order to get a phone by a provider.
i started with an 8300, went to an 8520, then to a 8900, picked up a storm a couple months ago and hated it, and i am now back with my favorite of them all, the 8900. It's been the best one I've had yet.
If you're coming to the US, then the 9700 would be the best bet. I came from the 8320 and 8900 on T-Mobile. I got the 9700 when it launched and have not been let down one bit.
8520 is made for low blackberry use with emphasis on media. My girlfriend has one since I dragged her into team blackberry and its not a bad phone just isn't feature filled like the high end 9630 or 9700

What about the Sony walkman phones I am sure they are more suited to you needs probably cheaper too. Blackberry is a regular phone without a data plan.

I was never interested in celluar phones at any point in time in my life until I got my very own Curve 8320 as a gift from a cousin and fell in love with it. I'm spoiled rotten man. Plus money isn't an issue. And ontop of that I walk around with a 120gb zune in my pocket for all my music purposes.
I think my younger bro has a sony walkman phone, or an ericson. I'll stick with Blackberry.
I quickly came to hate the storm 1 & 2.. the touch screen is horrible.. and thats all she wrote hahaha
Did you hate it because you hate touchscreen phones in general Or because you didn't like ther response of the touchscreen on the storm?
I used the Storm 1 for a bit and got my Uncle's storm 2 for a week.
While I'm not too much a fan of touchscreen **** because I hate to see them get scratched/cracked/marred in my pockets or when they eventually fall...but the Storm 2 handled quite well.
The screen seemed as if it was moving in whenever I touched it which made me wonder a bit, and it took some getting used to since I was using the Curve's operating system all the time...but beyond that..I was kewl.
Wouldln't buy one because of the price and the fact that I'm not a fan of Touchscreen stuff...but it was cool enough.
