I am considering buying a blackberry 9930 (verizon bold) on craigslist. I have never before purchased one of my devises outside of an actual verizon store. Does anyone have any advice on this? A friend told me to check the white square under the battery and make sure it wasn't red for water damage. Also, how do I know that the esn has been cleared? if not, how do i do that? Also, how do i activate the phone if i do decide to purchase it? All in all, looking for advice/opinions on this before I do it.
I would meet with the seller at a Verizon store where you can have that all checked out before you hand over the money. At the time everything is cleared you can activate.
If the seller isn't willing to meet you there, consider that a red flag and walk away.
Meet the seller at a VZW store, make sure it hasn't been listed as stolen, has clear ESN, and the like. If you activate it right in the store, make a call or two as a "test drive"
Your friend is right, check for water damage as well.
