From what we have been told at BB Jam Europe, Jelly Bean won't come with 10.1.
From what we have been told at BB Jam Europe, Jelly Bean won't come with 10.1.
Thanks for the info, did they give a time frame for Jelly Bean?
No.
But it will be this year. That's the only thing they were allowed to say.
They have it running currently (as N4BB has confirmed too) but they still need to get it to feature parity with the current runtime (integration with core features like camera, file manager etc.).
im guessing that jellybean update will bring some core features from android such as DRM for netflix and what not, just a guess though
As buggy as Android supposedly is, BB10 and BB fanboys sure are relying on it for their big 70k apps claim...lol.

This is not correct. BB10 was developed in a modular way that allows OS updates to be pushed out more frequently WITHOUT requiring each carrier to certify it because they don't need to touch the radio stack
I dont think thats the correct way to label it, but in essence you nailed it. Look at series of cars as an example, The same car but released at different times labeled Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 etc. They later series have updates and additions that the original didnt, less bugs than the original did. Thats the way of evolving tech and software.
I mean you could also say every android ver prior to 4.x was bug ridden test OS, you could say it about anything that had versions before it
Anyway whether this is true or not I dont know. I doubt that the US carriers have a different version to test. They might just have different test methods, different legislation to go through, or just not as many resouces on the test program as other parts of the world thereby taking a bit longer. But blackberry did mention waves, so perhaps this is the second wave of the launch
I think of early adopters, with collective criticisms, as the trail blazers and pioneer consumers. Both tech companies and the rest of the consumers needs these pioneer consumers. I know it takes time to post/share their experience on forums like this, so I appreciate their effort. For the whiners, I understand their frustration. I just ignore their comments. This is why not all early adopters are trail blazers and pioneers consumers.
Exactly, you have no idea. This phone is rock solid.
From what I understand, BlackBerry can update the OS as needed. They require carrier approval for updates on the radio stack/antenna. Previous BBOS these were tied together.
This is a good way to think. It seems that it would be nice. Now for those who are saying it shouldn't have been released or its bug ridden and all the like, obviously nothingness perfect and I'm sure you heard that all the time. But because it doesn't do something its not a bug. Remember how long it took the iphone to have OTA updates??? That's not a bug although a HUGE *** problem for me. But it was a feature that was added later on. Do you remember the Google g1? That was riddled with issues. So bb10 could have been significantly worse... And the thing cut and paste out of the box??? Yes... Unlike another platform that took 3-4 years to get that...
I havent heard any rumors on new playbook... I thiught Blackberry has given up making tablets?
The odds are that they are not rushing to make one until bb10 is established because they need to make money on hardware and right now the market seems to be split between ipads and very low margin android tablets like the nexus 7 or kindle fire.
my z10 works just fine thank you

Were are you getting this info from? I'm pretty sure 4.1 is still a good bit of time away from being ready. Skype will be on the existing Android runtime. It doesn't "need" Jb to work.

is android central too boring for you ?

The reason BlackBerry10 is not in the U.S is because of Skype and instagram. People can say its because of carrier testing but that's just B.S
BlackBerry wants to capture some of the American market again and if BB10 launched without some key apps and features it would have been a bad bad first impression.
I'm not here to argue this. This is my personal opinion and its a strong opinion. When skype and instagram launch we will see a U.S carrier have the phones within that week. Feel free to mark my words.

While the lack of these apps is an issue it is a minor one compared with the real facts that the carriers in the states have a drastically longer lab time than everywhere else, something which is particularly stupid in the case of the GSM carriers since they should be looking to take advantage of things like the GCF certification that all mobiles have to go through prior to their release to most european carriers.
On the subject of missing apps, one thing to consider might actually be the reverse of your idea, we could see those apps being ready prior to the US launch and then held back so that BB gets to do a big announcement and get some more attention by saying the z10 is now in american stores and from today x, y and z are also available from bb world.
My biggest fear is carriers like AT&T are looking for ways to cripple the devices and create additional revenue streams for themselves. AT&T specifically made it hard as heck to use anything but AT&T Navigator for maps and directions. There were work-a rounds for BBMaps but they were all cumbersome. I hope this is not the reason for the delay. I already pay an additional $50 a month for a BlackBerry Unlimited Plan. I'm willing to bet that goes up or is eliminated for something lesser. I also see them trying to block rroyy.
I'm ok with be the guinea pig for 10.0.
reading the review that CBK did with the Z10 at/around launch he said that BBRY has been informed of some of the short comings in the OS and they said they will be coming out with a maintenance update soon. depending on how much the maintenance update is if they will push it all the way close to 10.1. if they do end up being close to it and can see them releasing the BB10 US devices with 10.1.
is that the reason for the delay? i HIGHLY doubt it!! i believe that it as we were told,. its a carrier issue not a BBRY issue. Is BBRY taking this opportunity and using Canada and the UK as guinea pigs to stomp any issues with the OS and big name apps i say yes LOL.
... and good nite :)
Don't forget that the US carriers need to load up the devices with their proprietary junk and branding.
Takes a while for them to figure out how to write a big fat bloatware app for a new OS. Especially if they're not that enthusiastic about that new OS.
Other than the noted and obvious bugs..
The 3rd world takes pretty much what's given to it and RIM has a very strong arm in those areas....
...The phones are sturdy, well built and do short simple email and texting better than anything else.
...Besides that the actual phone part of blackberry is 2nd to none.
They were smart to Guinea Pig the new devices in areas that were already in the bag so to speak....
...I think RIM is playing it's cards exactly as it should.
